This. So much of the site was on board with "Let's fight censorship of pornography and age verification!" and then the moment a furry made a mod that wasn't even pornographic, suddenly the Very Serious Liberals decided that queer people were actually degenerates who needed to be purged.
feels like there was a moment where people were like "let's fight against paypros by being openly supportive of all queer and kink art" and then world war III started so everyone started looking around for a bathroom to trash or a trans person to strangle.

I unironicly think Neir: Automata single handle ended this stupid strain of thought by having women in borderline fetish gear who are actual characters and being such a glaring example of why this is a nonsense reactionary concept
I do genuinely believe that the way entertainment journalists wrote opinion pieces about sexualized characters in the 2010s did have a strong impact on the waves of internet censorship today. It's not that conservative outlooks needed an excuse, but that it conditioned the left to not defend sex.
