Too cold for the beach. Going home.
December 31, 2025 at 2:57 PM
Before I walked out into the cold I had a short, last 2025 session in Ion Fury.

A good reminder of funny stuff. Kinda weird that this next year that will have been out seven years.

Yeah. 2019 was soon to be seven years ago.

Fun Japan things:

People outside the local shrine waiting for the new year. Smoking and drinking beer.

One of them is the priest.

LADS!

Last day of the year.

2025 was odd. I achieved very few of my goals, but they were all made at a time before my work load increased. Now, I am making far more realistic goals.

This year was far more chaotic from a Japan perspective. Food has gone up a lot, and xenophobia has gone ballistic.

Help?

Possibly the last game finished this year.
Space Marine 2 was... interesting. It is a good follow up to the original, and Titus is still the lad.

I had to play it on my second / console PC though. For some reason the game did not like the GPU. Once stable it was good though.

False score: 81/100

A few titles I've played over the holidays from work:

Space Marine 2: Confusing aesthetics. Keeps bugging out and the textures break.
Turok Remastered: I don't understand.
Routine: Spoopie space! Enjoyable thus far.
Hark the Ghoul demo: Seems cool. Want to see more!

The horrid irony is, well...

Look at Sterling's old employer from so long ago, the Escapist. Look at the videos they have uploaded of late on their YouTube channel and just see the horrid irony.
Blanket censoring the word “gambling” is literally a pro gambling move.

Gambling platforms avoid the word for obvious reasons, so YouTube eliminating its use under the pretense of combating gambling is the best fucking cover a gambling platform could ask for.

It’s pretty disgusting.
YouTube removed another of my anti-videogame gambling videos for being pro-gambling.

What a fucking farce of a website.

The funny thing? Most countries the size of the US will only put a high speed network in "justifiable areas". For America, that would be MA to VA, and in the middle with NY to IL. West Coast would be longer, from WA to South CA. Still, less than all of Japan's network.

No excuse really.
My whole life we’ve been told that The US is simply too big to have high speed rail

A reminder that Supplice is brilliant.
Also of note, especially if you want a shorter experience, it is HUGE! Even if you play a lot of megawads, this is still pretty lengthy... and it's not even close to being done.
Also while we're talking about Doom-based sci-fi shooters beginning with S starring heavily-armed women and with stories largely delivered through terminals and text logs...

Supplice is also very good, and probably the closest thing to a Marathon spiritual successor. In some great multi-packs too.

You can tell there is a swell of new users here. Less so because of more interactions, more because bluesky is running like crap right now.

The funny thing?

I really enjoy political theory and I have owned this on Steam for about a year (thanks Humble Bundle).
I have never played it.

Part of me is curious, but part of me is cautious of the hype.
Also, some folks who are more "fun" focused seemed to really, really hate it.

Ehhh... take it or leave it. I would take it over the other game that hit at the start of the sale period, but Callisto is banned in Japan. No dice for me.

Nice GPU stress tester I guess.

Only because I saw questions on another platform regarding this:

Why AMD GPUs? Why do I stick with them despite the issues?

Two simple reasons:
1: Linux drivers are way, way better for AMD
2: In Japan, AMD GPUs are at MSRP or less. Nvidia are about 20% above MSRP

Point 2 is the main reason tbh.
I very likely did not need this, but instead have some savings and I can see which way the wind is blowing with hardware.

Considering a bunch of the Nvidia super gpus are apparently cancelled, and they are going to cut production of their 16GB models, I took the plunge now.

I wondered why I was getting so much attention for such a simple post.

Looks like the South African guy pushed more people off his everything platform.

It is kind of weird that over there posts like this became rarer and rarer to see. I quit in 2024 when opening that app only resulted in anger.
Finally, a fully blackout buid pc.

I had one in a semi white casewith leds all over it, but that isn't my style. I've wanted a PC in a wood based build for a good while. Happy to finally have it.

And yes, I'm going to clean up those cables.

Best FPS games of the year for me.

Incision
Project Warlock 2
Wizordum
Dead Trash
Cultic pt2

With the exception of Wizordum, I don't think this has been a fantastic year for indie shooters, but most of these are "vibes" games. Dead Trash and Incision are full of problems, but I liked playing them.

This year is odd.

First is a AAA title that, aside from funding that silly terf lady, was based on the stupid book that she wrote that was never any good. Now it seems every day is a non-stop parade of damn good stuff!

I know Epic is poopie, but outside of GoG and Zoom, all digital stores are bad.

This.
This right here.
This is why I never trust streaming or subscription services.

Own your own hardware. Tell Nvidia, AMD and all the damn data centre companies to fuck off forever.

This is why I refuse to part with CDs and Vinyl. Fuck off cloud and streaming. Fuck off forever!
