Lol, I wonder if the Seattle Times headline writers have a point of view about this race 🤔
COMING NEXT SUNDAY
Bruce Harrell touts progress and promises stability in his quest for re-election.

Also if you’re not already supporting @theurbanist.org consider doing so with your money. If it weren’t for reporting from @typewriteralley.bsky.social so many of us would have missed this.

And we have a backpedal from SDOT.

"[W]e are updating our approach to meet the changes requested by Metro to support Route 2, while continuing conversations and evaluations with all stakeholders before advancing changes to bus lane uses."

This isn't over yet! We're not down with this, and we're not letting the mayor hide behind city bureaucracy either.

Come show up with the Transit Riders Union this Saturday morning, and bring tell a friend!
A post to the TRU members area requesting additional people at a protest for Saturday 10/4/25 at around 7am, to occupy the bus lane at 12th Ave & E Union St that the city wants to tear out.

I was just as shocked with the news about the route 2 bus only lane as you. We are working on it. We need to prioritize pedestrian safety and not go backwards on our transit investments.

I'm contacting the Mayor, Interim Director Adiam Emery, and CMs Hollingsworth, Rinck, and Nelson. Are you?

Confirmed: SDOT will be removing the bus only lane on E Union Street this weekend, ceding this part of the $130 million RapidRide G project back to general purpose traffic in response to requests from nearby property owners.

If every "Public Process" can be overturned by a handful of NIMBYs, what good is "Public Process"???

@wilsonforseattle.bsky.social this is absurd, and needs to be returned back to Bus Only.

The LaCroix thing says everything we need to know about Bruce Harrell's leadership in response to pedestrian deaths (a number he can't seem to track with accuracy).

Come for Katie Wilson's answer on traffic safety and the need to prioritize transit, stay for Bruce Harrell deciding to open a can of carbonated water while his opponent is speaking.

Katie Wilson: "Unfortunately we are not nearly on track [on Vision Zero]. So that means first of all transforming our most dangerous streets...
We have state funds for [Aurora Ave]. The Mayor's Office needs to lead with a vision informed by the community, in this case the Aurora Imagined Coalition."

@seattledot.bsky.social I just called in the safety hazard at Pine & 4th again.

The bike lane is now effectively less than 2ft wide and leads directly into conflict with vehicles with zero buffer or margin for error.

I honestly can’t believe city council didn’t delay the votes today to allow Solomon to be there. They disenfranchised our entire district.
qagggy.bsky.social
Oh, are you the most historically disinvested district in the city? Maybe you’ll get a seat at the table next time.

This shoulda been a no-brainer, but Seattle City Council got the car brain.

Strauss abstains, everyone else votes no, and Rinck's proposal to get rid of minimum parking mandates for new housing fails with only Rinck voting yes.

@seattledot.bsky.social director says SDOT is "transit first," but has yet to prove it. Jason @fixthel8.bsky.social with another great OpEd about why bus lanes are integral for a reliable Route 8. Thankfully @councilmember-amr.bsky.social recognizes this is a problem with an obvious solution.

For someone who really likes to play strongman, Harrell sure doesn’t like taking responsibility for the decisions his administration makes.
Harrell lives steps from Lake Washington
Boulevard, but a spokesperson said in an email that Harrell's office regularly provides input on street design, not just in the mayor's neighborhood, and added, "Mayor Harrell was not personally involved in the decision" to indefinitely suspend the planned safety measures.

Harrell: "I've always supported social housing."

Sure, Jan, you've just never wanted to use the tools we know work to support it or risk losing your, um, relation$hips.

I encourage folks (after reading my piece, of course! Or while reading!) to watch this debate for themselves. It's short and if you're ADHD you can watch it on 1.5 speed like I did!

Seattle's long in-person public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan has officially kicked off.

First comments were from @ceceliablack.bsky.social: "As you're going through this Comp Plan, I would really hope you ask yourself what you would do if you were disabled tomorrow and you couldn't drive."

When house owners talk about how they bought houses due to the "small neighborhood feel" what they mean is "a place where I don't have to see or tolerate renters" because renters are relegated to busy, filthy arterials outside those "small," "quaint" neighborhoods where they own property.
