ICE must be held accountable for the existing laws they’re breaking. I don’t think they’re going to stop if Congress passes legislation making the same crimes SUPER DOUBLE ILLEGAL

The thing about ICE and DHS is that I was 28 or 29 when they were created. I remember people arguing that they would become an authoritarian tool specifically designed to terrorize Americans. They knew.

Every journalist should be hounding him to answer corruption questions. Non-stop following him on the Hill just as they would if a D acted this way.
Graham is digging in his heels to try to get millions of dollars of taxpayer money. Corruption in plain sight.

Right now, the provision only applies to eight senators. Graham is offering to change the provision to also apply to the House & others — but he won’t accept not getting money for himself.

Nothing in the videos from that church show anything worse than disorderly conduct, at the absolute most maybe misdemeanor trespassing. State offenses, and here well within reasonable prosecutorial discretion. There is no federal crime here even for the actual protestors, much less reporters present

Senate Democrats must demand actual accountability.

If they can't abolish ICE, they must insist on independent investigations into the shooters of Good and Pretti (and everyone else ICE has hurt). They can't let it stand as an unaccountable agency with total impunity and endless funding.

Remember that in addition to arresting reporters, the regime deported journalist Mario Guevara after detaining him while covering No Kings Day protests.

The Trump admin already failed to get an arrest warrant on him—magistrate judge refused so DOJ went to appeals court, prompting that letter from the chief district judge torching the DOJ, and appeals court denied too—so God knows what this new one is, or if they even bothered to get a warrant.

THIS!!!!
I don't think people understand that if you shut down the government, ICE and CBP do NOT shut down. They're funded by supplemental money from the BBB. That's why dems are separating the DHS funding bill and asking for restrictions. I want them to demand a rescission of that funding or shut DHS down

The funding deal separates DHS from the other bills. An immediate DHS shutdown would be preferable, but whether DHS runs on CR or lapses, ICE & CBP continue.

This puts DHS by itself — setting up a DHS-only shutdown if we don’t get enough. That’s a place of maximum strength, if Ds have the courage.

yes, there are no real signs of any big change in DHS activity here yet. In Chicago there really was after Bovino left and they basically ended "Midway Blitz" not so here so far.
I don’t know, declaring victory in MN seems premature. They’re still arresting people and brutalizing the community. The changes appear—so far—to be cosmetic

EXHAUSTING. None of this will help stop a secret police terrorizing innocent people. Dems listening to this man and out of touch Dem consultants is shooting ourselves in the foot.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

HUGE news! This is about a Trump admin effort to arrest thousands of screened and vetted refugees in Minnesota and fly them to Texas to be jailed and then interrogated.

After the interrogation is over, people are being dumped on the street and told to find their own way back.

Shitty Dem consultants
who is advising Schumer and @democrats.senate.gov on this?

Are they now just ignoring the polls, the outrage, the murderous behavior cause some billionaire funded centrist is giving them toothless advice? They really need to look outside of their Capitol Hill bubble
Chuck Schumer just announced demands on DHS to avoid shutdown:
1. End roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants
2. Enforce accountability & unified code of conduct for agents
3. No more masks & require bodycams

There are *already* standards on much of this.

The issue is DHS isn't following them!

It is true DHS continues during a shutdown. That's a point I've been making for weeks. Even w/out OBBBA, DHS would largely continue as "excepted" work, working w/out pay. Because of OBBBA, it's largely "exempted" work, bcuz there is funding.

Nonetheless, this is the only leverage. We must use it.
