In a major precedent setting move, a Canadian federal judge blocked the deportation of a nonbinary US citizen because the Canadian immigration office failed to adequately assess the conditions for LGBTQ people since Trump took office.

I'm a little skeptical of this, it sounds too much like a conspiracy theory and without evidence to back it up, but it does cleanly explain certain political shifts

I am so over the media's framing of these kinds of issues. Who effing cares if the Trump administration wants to "make" Canada a state?

The correct framing here is: "Is the United States' position that it will no longer be adhere to international law when it comes to Canada?"
WELKER: Does the US still want to make Canada the 51st state?

MARCO RUBIO: I think the president has stated repeatedly he thinks Canada would be better off as a state

Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation.

I’m not sure what it is. A kidnapping?

IF Garcia is even still alive, Trump knows he can't allow him back into the country because he will immediately become ALL THE NEWS. His only move as far as he's concerned is letting Garcia rot and die, which he almost certainly will fight to do to the bitter end.

This is a turning point moment.
Don't overlook this: Trump is leaving Abrego Garcia to rot in a foreign gulag even though the admin can always bring him back and *retry him for deportation in a lawful way.* That they won't do this shows their case against him is nonsense.

New piece from me:

Trump’s Horrifying Removal of Man in “Error” Takes an Even Darker Turn
The Trump administration could allow Kilmar Abrego Garcia back into the U.S. and try to deport him through proper channels. So why won’t it even do that?

As a Canadian, I find this current situation incredibly depressing. I can't imagine the average American supports this new norm. Decades and decades of strengthening ties only for it all to be flushed down the toilet, and we're so confused by it we don't even have consensus as to why. 🤷‍♂️
