Complexity is a device used by societies to solve problems, and they ratchet up effort and sophistication until the marginal return slopes down over time.

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

The bigoted entitlement in the replies.. and I know such comparisons are fraught, but it is frightening to witness directly the first signs of what, last time around, allowed a world to be lead into, in one part to commit a holocaust, but also in many parts turn away and enable its scale.
I'll say it again: if any other ethnic or religious minority said "please don't use this particular term or chant, you might not have bad intentions but it is deeply racist and threatening to us", the reaction would be mortified apology.

And that's without a mass terror event four days ago

It's exhausting.

I never thought I'd say this but feeling so bleak this morning, part of me wishes they'd cut the smokescreen and just admit they don't like Jews - in Israel or anywhere else. Embrace the racism. Stop pretending they're the good guys on the side of progressive values. Be honest.

my great-grandparents arrived in the UK in the 1890s with nothing.
they sold pickles from the front room window, took in laundry, worked as tailors.
their children were nurses, teachers, salesmen.
their grandchildren were professors, designers, opticians, doctors, magistrates, entrepreneurs.
This is so disgusting.

Peace Dealing: the practice of engaging in endlessly negotiating a peace deal in order not to be punished for continuing the conflict, also creates opportunities for bystanders to find exploits to enriching themselves.

Exactly. They are the same project.
The long-running ideological war on libraries, education, and government workers is not separate from AI boosterism. It is the same ideological war on human knowledge and expertise. In some cases AI is being used to directly supercharge this effort:

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

One can only wonder why, right?

There was a phase in the late 70s and into the 80s where a lot of good music (composition and songwriting) was “enhanced” with “new” synth sounds or effects. Most of it just sounds crap today, cheap, show-offy and arbitrary. Makes the music annoying! That’s the stage we’re at with using AI.

Ah, Bluesky wants to make itself an even more comfortable place for users.

Great for people who don’t want to hear anything they disagree with. Bad if you occasionally have views that don’t please the majority.
