Firing a Black woman for quoting Kirk’s horrific statements about Black women is insane. It seems the Washington Post would rather perform politeness (and demand that the people Kirk harmed do it too) that tell the truth: karenattiah.substack.com/p/the-washin...

These firings, with zero due process, are violations of widely accepted principles of academic freedom & are completely unacceptable. College & university administrators MUST NOT exploit these shocking events to censor protected speech & concentrate their own power.

I'm honestly terrified of what the right will use this as justification for. They're itching to engage in violence against their enemies and this will give them the excuse to do so. This is why political violence is never acceptable. It just descends into uncontrollable chaos and more violence.

What have we done for life to abandon us this way
What sin did we commit to deserve such misery
This was once my home my memories my victories
When will we wake from this nightmare
I need you beside me for I feel powerless against everything
This link is our only hope 😕

Dr. Tarek Loubani, who is in Gaza right now, was invited to give a talk to emergency workers about the attacks on health care facilities in Gaza.

But he was instructed - get this - not to say who was doing the attacking. Take a look at how this hero of a human responded: vimeo.com/1112115018/c...

In the end, we’re going to have to make some choices about what R1 universities are: institutions of higher learning, pure inquiry, and broad-based research or money machines that blow in the wind with donors and the latest trends. Only one path is viable long term, in my opinion.

More UChicago Ph.D. Programs Will Pause Admissions
The arts and humanities dean said “nearly all” faculty leaders preferred “a broader pause for the division.” Some social sciences programs also aren’t accepting new students.

WOW! After months of the Trump administration saying that he would never be allowed back into the country — they brought him back. Then after months saying he would never be let free — he's back home.

He still faces very serious criminal charges, and ICE may still move to arrest and deport him.
