@colleendoran.bsky.social I wanted to spend time with my newly arrived Good Omens graphic novel, but Sophie called dibs.
A tabby cat resting on a cardboard shipping box containing the Good Omens graphic novel. Another package and its contents have been shoved to the side.

One of my favorite movies. Probably in my top ten. So fun to watch.

He's gone full Lebowski!

Russ Kunkel is one of those players who is all over my music collection. (I can probably link any two albums in no more than three names. 🙂) And I have one of Leah's albums, too.

Such an incredible book. I've read it multiple times.

One of the biggest problems with the world is that fools are always so sure and certain about everything and intelligent people are so full of doubts and uncertainties.

I kid you not, my work knows that I do drawing on the side and someone in the office told me AI could save me time and my response was "but I like drawing" and it broke them. They didn't know how to answer, they just couldn't comprehend that people make art because they like making art.

The great Dave Cockrum! I have all of his X-Men run, I think.

The reason generative AI is so popular with wannabe creatives is best illustrated by something every pro writer has encountered: getting pitched an idea by someone saying "You write it and we'll split the profits!" because they think the idea is what has value, not the writing. The opposite is true.

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

I worry that not enough of a big deal is being made about how long-term the devastation of these budget cuts to our scientific and health agencies will be, beyond the absolute ruin they will cause in the acute period.

I'm starting to think we won't have any executives on site at WWDC.

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

Just to clarify, I was not comparing my story to the horrors you went through. Just saying, if my story was the worst thing I ever dealt with at a con, I had it made! 🙂

Wow. You have survived a LOT! (My worst convention story was when our GoH Larry Niven (yes, I'm naming names) upgraded his plane ticket to first class without telling us and made us pay the difference. Completely wiped out our convention's proceeds.)

Good on ya, man, for being a library hero.
