Jewelry nerds like to look at these photos and guess total carat weight. It is always bonkers.

This one is estimated over two pounds. That’s the Star of Africa, Cullinans one through four at least, and lord knows with the smaller stones. Read/hear the alt text!

Incidentally there are more relevant antecedents available, but none of them have the sheer poetry or mellifluence of "The Listowel and Ballybunion Railway".

It's *incredibly* satisfying to say.

This beautiful 213.8 ct elbaite tourmaline has been in our Gem & Mineral Collection since 1966, purchased from the Martin L. Ehrmann Co., from whom we acquired numerous specimens over the years.

I've played 3 hours of The Seance of Blake Manor from #Galway based #indiegames devs @spookydoorway.bsky.social so far, and it's excellent.

Great mix of Irish myth, history, paganism, occult (wasn't expecting the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn to appear, but given when it's set, that makes sense)
The Seance of Blake Manor is now live on Steam.
Check out our launch trailer!

When your cat is knighted for gallantry in mouse-catching and commissions a new coat of arms. 🐈🐁

Actually, these arms belonged to Sir Isaac Pennington (1745-1817). They were charmingly sketched by Richard Relhan (1797-1838).

My piece @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social
on the Bord na Móna peat briquette, a once popular fuel for Irish people & an Irish industrial design icon.
Their memory is the source of much nostalgia and their demise, while good for the environment, represents the end of an era.

This week, I offer a SNEAK PEEK at my son's new novel, and remember a tale from my own time as a precocious child scribe.

On time travel, stone age tools, and Idelandic fish festivals.

It was, if the spirit of Iain Banks will forgive me, the day the pope exploded

Or, to be strictly accurate, today is the 67th anniversary of the day a botched embalming saw Pius XII’s rotting torso break open while he was lying in state

(Yes, sorry*. This thread is disgusting)

(*Well, kind of)
