Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵

In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians.

We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties.

There’s a lot of reasons to learn labor history, one big one is that many of us have never lived in a time of real worker power, or seen it exercised. We’ve never seen a general strike shut down our city and bring bosses to their knees. But it’s happened before and it will happen again.

SCIENTISTS: You need to reduce emissions by -/+10% per year to secure a liveable future and save the world from the worst climate impacts

COUNTRIES: Hmm, is there any way we could cheat?

SCIENTISTS: Sure. It wouldn't work, bu-

COUNTRIES: Thanks we're done here www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Countries could use nature to ‘cheat’ on net zero targets, scientists warn
By relying on natural carbon sinks such as forests and peatlands to offset emissions, governments can appear closer to goals than they actually are

In this talk I will argue:

*Paris Agreement always relied on overshoot
*carbon removal tech was invented by economists
*1.5 is gone & much more warming coming
*no credible routes to reduce global temps
*green transition risks complete derailment
*time has run out, we need a new plan

All welcome!

A challenge to US and Western hegemony, sure. The dawn of a multipolar world, sure. Global South cooperation for economic growth and "development", sure.

But make no mistake, this is ecological destruction. It will doom the world as surely as Western imperialism does.

It's my belief that centralised democracy is an oxymoron. Only through a radical devolution to the people, enabling us to participate in political decision-making all the time, rather than once every 4 or 5 years, can we defend democracy from its nemesis: concentrated power.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.
