- Widespread rainfall occurred across the western margins of the Region.

Hurricane Laura pounded Louisiana as a high-end Category 4. Winds up to 150 mph and 10+ foot storm surge produced substantial damage throughout Cameron Parish and surrounding areas. The storm caused 41 fatalities and $19 billion in damage.

Chattanooga, Tennessee recorded its second-wettest day on record, receiving more than 6 inches of rain and nearly twice the city's typical August rainfall in a single day, triggering significant flooding and numerous water rescues.

The most dramatic changes occurred in Texas, which experienced widespread recovery across nearly all drought categories. Central Texas saw the largest improvements due to the historic July 4–7 flooding

The South recorded the most dramatic recovery, as central and southwestern TX improved by as much as five drought categories following extreme rainfall and flooding, while only isolated areas in TN, MS and OK worsened.
