Godless, classless, morally bankrupt, annoying pedant
Decided not to do resolutions this year. Given up on improving myself. Instead I do recommendations. New year, new instructions from me on how to be better

This, but also Snoopy's Christmas is a carol and nobody can convince me otherwise
It's that time of year in which I once again marvel at the vast contrast in general quality between Christmas carols (almost universally good) and Christmas songs (almost universally bad).

Willis has hyped the "horrors" of the books so much that when she speaks I genuinely start to expect a jump-scare, or blood to start ominously dripping from somewhere off camera. Always disappointing that it turns out to be dull-as-fuck accounting foibles #nzpol
'Fiscal cliff': Grant Robertson and Nicola Willis clash over claims of billion-dollar hole in Treasu...
New Finance Minister Nicola Willis claims there are big holes in the Treasury books, but her predecessor says the information has always been there, if you looked for it.

the principles of the treaty, and their attendant settlements, were an act of generosity - on the part of māori. this is what seymour doesn’t get. māori won’t lie down if their generosity in accepting the principles and settlements, against the wisdom of past experience, is thrown back in their face

I loved, wholly and deeply, every single lie that George Santos uttered, and every grift he pulled. I hope he is canonised and look forward to buying a glossy coffee table book of his chaotic misdeeds

The WHOLE point of the Pre-Election Fiscal Update (PREFU) is there are no surprises for an incoming government. Willis is either bullshitting here or happy to cast aspersions on Treasury for fudging PREFU, a bold move. Honestly she really should be pulled up over this.

No one will believe that as the world was burning, the men rich enough to stop it were trying to make computers more racist. They’ll think that was a bit of color we made up, like Depression-era stockbrokers leaping from skyscrapers.

The contortions media are going through in their reporting of the war should be of concern to everyone, regardless of politics. It's not "both side-ism" to refer to children as children, and we should be ashamed to let anyone argue otherwise.

Let's not forget restrictions also exist for anyone who's ever accepted payment for sex, or had sex with gay/bi men. There are ways to screen for blood-borne disease without playing into harmful, offensive, and outdated stereotypes. NZ Blood just doesn't consider that a priority 🤷‍♀️

Born in 1994: condemned to an entire lifetime of helping colleagues navigate minor IT issues
If you’re between 28 and 50 you grew up at a time where computers didn’t work well, so you had to figure out how they worked in order to use them. Now that mobile devices have been walled gardens that Just Work for a decade, you’ve got people who have had no reason to learn how the computer works.

I don't know how many times in how many ways i have to say "AI encodes, reinforces, & iterates on the prejudicial biases & other values & beliefs of humans, so events like this are entirely predictable as long as we keep building & training these systems the ways we do" before it fucking sinks in.
WhatsApp’s AI shows gun-wielding children when prompted with ‘Palestine’
By contrast, prompts for ‘Israeli’ do not generate images of people wielding guns, even in response to a prompt for ‘Israel army’

Winston is in his happy place, his most natural state, basking in the sun. Like the rhinoceros iguana, he may appear a slovenly and unlikeable creature, but he plays an essential role in this ecosystem. Nature never ceases to amaze

Prediction: strong results for minor parties, significantly for the Greens and TPM but with Act and NZF also getting a decent bump.
Side bet: Helen White loses her electorate and attacks a journalist with a stapler
