A few words on the passing of a key figure in Disney's Renaissance era, the man behind underrated animated gem The Prophet, and — most importantly — a very good, kind, warm soul by all accounts.

Rest easy, Roger Allers. (And watch Rock & Rule, folks — it'll blow your mind!)
Roger Allers, co-director of The Lion King and veteran Disney animator, has sadly died aged 76.

Our thoughts are with Allers' friends, family, and loved ones at this difficult time, and he will be sorely missed.

Y'know, if I were Netflix and buying a major studio and trying to convince people I was going to release movies in theatres.

And I had a new movie starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and a Best Supporting Actress frontrunner.

I would, like, maybe put that movie in theatres.

Hands up if you've deliberately travelled to another town or city just to see a movie.

Yep. Quite a few times. Including thanks to Netflix's own limited release model sometimes.

A smart thing the studio bosses of Golden Age Hollywood would do is, if a movie was making money in theaters, they would have a day picked out at which they would arbitrarily have it stop making money in theaters.

I think it says something about the state of comedy on film right now that the Top 10 on Letterboxd includes One Battle After Another and Sorry Baby, both of which are great films, but I would certainly not consider to be primarily comedies by any stretch.

I’ll give Michael Sarnoski the benefit of the doubt, but I’d sincerely like to see a Robin Hood adaptation with some colour again some time in my lifetime…
Watch the trailer for The Death of Robin Hood starring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård 🏹

In theaters later this year via A24.
