New Projector Short! Good Boy (not to be confused with the others ones) is a microbudget horror film where the director made his pet dog the star, where the canine POV gimmick is pretty much the whole show. And he is indeed a good boy. 📽️ youtube.com/shorts/iylkL...

I've had a day off from the festival, which has been enforced by the tooth situation. It has not been a good day.

Epilepsy warning: strong strobe lights in some nightclub sequences.

Bit bummed to notice that Film Club features an acknowledgment in the closing credits that the opening title cards are made with AI.

Mark Hamill liked my review. And I guess it is almost entirely how people have heard of me.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

It's been a latte instead of a cup of tea, your teeth have decided to break kind of day.

Father Mother Sister Brother: Jim Jarmusch presents a star-studded anthology (Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Charlotte Ramping and more) of adult children and their parents, with recurring elements. Well observed and sometimes dryly funny, but at times quite stilted. #LFF

I wouldn't be totally surprised if they changed the title to "Bad Boy". It'd still fit.

Good Boy (the other 2025 one): Anson Boon's thuggish teen is chained up by Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as part of their "family" and taught manners in this darkly comic thriller that's very hard to pin down in terms of tone. Not sure about the message, especially with the poor ending. #LFF

Wake Up Dead Man: Daniel Craig tries to solve an unsolvable murder in a church in the third Knives Out mystery, which is probably the weakest of the three IMO, but still great fun. Starts very strong, loses its way in the middle with some silly turns, and recovers for the ending. #LFF

New Projector Short! Harris Dickinson is a fast rising star, after roles in The King's Man and Babygirl, and he makes his directorial debut with the homelessness drama Urchin, which won big at Cannes this year - unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of it. 📽️ www.youtube.com/shorts/zCJlk...

ICYMI - I edited @allisonpregler.bsky.social and @phelous.bsky.social looking at the third Halloweentown movie! Think it's set in a school in the magical world? WRONG!

Prepare to be baffled by the plot holes and clumsy allegories!

Was #Halloweentown High really necessary? Our look at Halloweentown's disappointing third entry is now public! Please share!

The thumbnail for our review of Halloweentown High. The cast poses in the background. I lean to the side with a smile and Phelan holds up some nunchaku. We're dressed as Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park. The text reads "NORMAL KIDS IN HIGH SCHOOL"

Apologies for not having a new full video up, BTW. I wanted to film a full video today, but I'm absolutely thrashed, and I'm up before 6am tomorrow. It will just have to wait.

I can't think of a film I'm ignoring the existence of right now harder than Tron: Morbius.

Macy Gray turning up in this as Kate Mara's friend is only one of many very odd things in this. Like why does this have a homage to the kitchen scene from Jurassic Park?
filmbrainbmb.bsky.social
The Astronaut: Kate Mara's astronaut comes back from space and recuperates in a remote property, but she thinks something has followed her, in this sci-fi thriller constrained by a tight budget. An hour of very little turns into trying to figure out if it is Alien, The Fly or a Spielberg pastiche.

Isn't it already here, and always has? These are fashion-focused spy cameras or stalker cams. They're a privacy nightmare, and it turns people don't want the thought that their every interaction with you is recorded, even if they aren't "on".
