to bad this would not work in Literally Any Other Kind Of Game (almost)

man, being able to use enemy attacks on the player character is an absolute game-changer for testing stuff like ranges and lining up fx

ooh yknow
i was reminded of that story recently (and the recent movie where the color is portrayed by Magenta) and had a thought

what if you color graded a movie to be all in reds and greens, and then used Pure Vibrant Blue for the color...

the eternal curse of youtube is bingeing a channel called James's Weather getting into too much detail about their perennial hyperfocus and then the Algorithm™ decides you like Topic™ and fills the sidebars with ten million videos called SIX THINGS YOU'RE DOING WRONG by the most boring people ever

oh my god apparently the SI unit symbol for gradians is "gon" and the result of that is this
10^1 gon (gradians) has the name "decagon" and the SI symbol "dagon", which are shared by a 10 sided polygon and a lovecraftian deep one, respectively.
starlight.garden
they should make τ the unit symbol for turns just to confuse everyone who uses radians and then unconfuse them when it turns out to the exact same number lol

somebody should make a challenge prompt sheet where you have to do eight other prompt sheets at once and call it octo-october-tober

i think this is the principle behind bright light therapy so you may be onto something here

got me thinking it'd be interesting to see what happens if you tried to swap levels or level generators between genres.

would have to be careful with e.g. bringing roguelike dungeons into a platformer but maybe with enough movement tech it could be done!

Worker owned things will have much better time existing when people will understand that “the rich/capitalists” doesn’t mean “anybody who gets paid (slightly more than me) for their work”
moomanibe.bsky.social
when I was defending itch I heard from a lot of - frankly to my shock - other queers who were like "it's a platform, platforms are the enemy" and until we're able to distinguish _as users_ the ways in which worker owned services aren't your enemy and deserve grace, we won't be seeing very many
starlight.garden
hahah not quite. i've got this idea for an "enemy" that's basically a slow-moving projectile that tracks the player somewhat, turning closer towards them with each attack

the game is semi-turn-based, so that works by constraining which angles they can attack towards within a range of their last one
starlight.garden
mine today: "clamping" an angle to give certain enemies a "turn radius" to their attacks.

angle stuff is always trickier than you'd expect because of that pesky wrap-around. game engines should have more dedicated modular arithmetic systems tbh
starlight.garden
look, we all have those moments where you're programming something that requires taking a difference and when it doesn't work you just kinda randomly flip the signs on things until it does.

is the left door the door on the left when you're facing it, or the door on the left when you're facing it from the other side?

or, perhaps, a secret third left,

Digital to Pixelart Pipeline
(Concept for Project Zwilling

#gamedev #pixelart #ProjectZwilling
An image consisting of two parts, on the left is the digital black and white conceptart of a goat like fantasy creature, the limbs spread out like they are lying on the ground with the eyes and mouth wide open like in shock. On the right side is the same image, but on a far smaller resolution and in a pixelart style with a white, yellow, light blue color scheme

I don't think I posted this or formally showed this character off here in particular but their name is Fallow. Edgy synthetic soldier from a weird incubation factory that shut down - I mull over ideas related to a character designed to fight in a world that has moved past war with this one.
An anthro rabbit character with 3 designs; base suit, with helmet, base suit without helmet, and fully clothed
The base suit is primarily skin tight black with metallic armored bits at the knees and shoulders, a hard but thin chestplate, and cuffs at the ankles and wrist. the helmet is a large ovular bubble with a horn at the top and a screen-like closed eye on the side. a halo wraps with a wide radius around the neck. without the helmet, a solemn, gloomy looking rabbit face is revealed. in clothing, Fallow wears tall, knee high boots, and multiple layers of cloaks/jacket pieces to cover up.

Pondering my Orbs

hmmm

is it a good idea to make the first boss in my game a semi-unconventional "horde" fight?

maybe.

but i suppose i can shift it to a different area later if needed. nothing is set in stone yet (aside from this boss lol puns about sprites i haven't finished yet lol)

there's this... Feeling i get
when i read or watch some really effective cosmic horror

appropriately it's hard to describe
that

dread

just slowly settling down on top of my mind
almost like the colour drains out of everything.

so yeah thanks for the good research material youtube!
