oh HEY peeps -- Cold Magic at $2 on Kindle. Book one of my Afro-Celtic post-Roman regency icepunk fantasy adventure trilogy, with Phoenician spies, well-dressed men, revolutionary women, and (of course) lawyer dinosaurs.
Oooh! Ooh, Cold Magic, the first in Kate Elliott's Spiritwalker trilogy, is on $2 sale on Amazon! I am not a bit exaggerating when I say these books helped save my sanity, I was re-reading them when the hurricane hit and in the aftermath they gave me a wonderful place to escape to.

I mean, who am I going to ignore while I am out if I don’t live in a city? People have to be around for me to ignore them.
we need a word for a type of person who spends all their time working to live in a city so they can be near cool things, but they don't actually like going out

Sesame Street, Mr Rogers, Reading Rainbow, Living Planet, Cosmos

None of these are radical, or they shouldn't be. And yet they formed the core of my "radical" beliefs in being kind, learning, respecting peopleness over things.

So no, nothing radicalized me, what made you abandon kindness?

“...sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.
“It’s a lot more complicated than that . . .”
“No. It ain’t. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they mean they’re getting worried that they won’t like the truth...”

"What radicalized you?"

Nothing. I refuse to bow to the framing that my beliefs are "radical."

Kids should be fed not bombed or shot
Schools should be safe places.
Reading is an unalloyed good.
The world is amazing and should be cherished.
Science and medicine is star stuff understanding itself.

Kate Elliott’s books are always a great read. On my list!
My grimsweet fantasy road trip (on foot) lands today w/ a humble deputy courier forced to guide uppity court officials on a back country route that includes a ravenous fungal ghost plague, court intrigue, & a mysterious haunt.
First of a duology (bk 2 in Nov).

For some reason this kid's book (very seussish) that I wrote with my daughter when she was much younger has sold 30 copies on Audible this mont. Make her a bestseller? It's very cheap, about 3 minutes long, and narrated by Chris Patton.
Perilous Pink PcGee
Check out this great listen on Audible.com. The REAL Pink PcGee lives on Katie's bed. He's a stuffed pig that came to live with her one Valentine's day. She also has the Arrrrbor seal, but she's still...

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.”
Absurd we still need to go through this

So imagine two NSF grants:

1) “We study ailments in the male reproductive system using blah blah blah methodology.”

Grant allowed; funding disbursed.

2) “We study ailments in the female reproductive system using blah blah blah methodology.”

Grant cancelled; no funding.

A pattern for troubled times:
Row 1: put your phone down
Row 2: pick up your hobby supplies
Row 3: make something for at least an hour
Row 4: take a photo of your make
Row 5: share that photo to your timeline (with alt text)
Row 6: like others' makes.

Rep rows 1-6 until time for tea.

I'm already really tired of my timeline being full of people disparaging winter, so, fellow winter lovers, let's share how wonderous this season is.

These photos were from one winter day along the Straight of Juan de Fuca.

It took slightly longer than expected, but THE BAG IS COMPLETE.

I used the empty space at the end to put in some charts, because I love reading data. Turns out embroidering a pie chart is a faff, but I think it was worth it.
