‘The BBC don’t realise that these people want their destruction.’

Why are right-wing media outlets so 'exercised' by the editing of a Panorama documentary? James O’Brien has an idea.

Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

I found this piece sad too, but mostly because it is part of a years-long effort by progressives to understand what "really" animates Trump voters.

We already know! It is racism, misogyny and misinformation. I know that sounds condescending or whatever but it's simply what all evidence suggests.

I really really do not think most Democratic politicians understand how many normie democrats think we will need Nuremberg-esque truth & reconciliation investigations and trials of leading Republican officials the next time we are in power

Remember when Nancy Polisi’s husband was assaulted with a hammer by a Trump supporter? And the traitor joked about it? And then the press found a way to normalize it? That’s why we’re here.

As long as I can remember Republicans have claimed tax cuts pay for themselves. This lie not only got us to unfathomable budget deficits but it is also a prime example of the long-term media behavior of holding Republicans to a different standard than Democrats

It sorta feels like a lot of people are taking out the aggression they have towards Trump onto Biden because they know Biden won’t/can’t retaliate.

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs
America is over. There is no coming back from this.

If we're lucky maybe we claw back some small-l liberalism for our daily lives. But even that might be too much to hope for.

The rest of the world has to move on from us.

They now know that the American people can't be trusted.

They're right.

The problem with keeping up the idea that activism is incompatible with journalism, is that marginalized journalists are seen as activists just for existing.
This isn't meant to be a dunk, but I'm genuinely surprised when people don't understand that journalists generally cannot take part in activism if they want to be taken seriously as journalists

This is all true and yet I think the infantilization of these people is part of a bigger, more pathological problem that (the vast majority of) folks will never really grapple with.
People’s reactions to these stories tend to be of the leopards-eating-faces variety but this is a great piece of reporting in part about how voters very disconnected from politics make their choices.

Agreed. I worry that we lack a reliable societal memory with which to learn from problems. The RW obfuscates, the press launders, and so many people appear uninterested in digging for truth below the surface emotion of a story. So much damage, but without proper attribution, things can't get fixed
