Ex-hack. Reads a lot. Most of it never seems to go in. Or stay in. Dull.

This is a borderline psychotic thing to put in a newspaper.
This is the point where the anti-Reeves stories tip into madness. Criticise her performance all you like but what the hell is this?

It is very odd that the outcome of a major stage of the Covid Inquiry was barely news after about 24 hours but Chris Mason is leading bulletin after bulletin with some sort of impenetrable pedantry days after the budget.

Just finished the 1,000 page Judgment At Tokyo by Gary Bass. Not entirely sure what to make of it. Bass handles the detail well and fashions a compelling narrative from clearly extensive research, but the constant attempt to be even-handed is slightly wearing. #Histbookchat

Bored I tried to ‘watch’ some sort of lightweight documentary on the PlayStation on Amazon Prime. The content was standardly uninspiring but the sound was dreadful. Need to a free text field not a ‘Don’t Like’ button.

This is a very important story in the context of Nigel Farage’s publicly expressed - if apparently unconnected - admiration for Putin and other links with a regime that only wants to harm our country.

I’ve been rewatching the Coen Bros filmography this month and while drawing a Barton Fink illustration, it struck me how much their films feel like Far Side cartoons: funny, strange, clever, yet frequently inscrutable. Anyway here’s a thread!

It is great to read a history book that feels pleasing blunt in answering its central question but also opens other avenues through excellent counter factuals and comparisons, particularly around Britain’s own position in the 30s. #Histbookchat
