Here's a great example. One question I get a lot is why I don't take every case to trial and appeal every loss. I'd love to, personally. But who's going to pay my client's family's rent, food, healthcare, child care, or car bill whilst they're incarcerated awaiting trial?

NSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇

Texas, the state which burns the most coal for electricity, generated more power from solar than coal in 2025. Natural gas power fell from 2024 while wind (barely) and solar (dramatically) increased, driven by market forces. ERCOT = TX grid, 90+% of power in state.

On Wed the House is going to vote on two bills, one that would ban Medicaid funding for youth gender affirming care (HR498), the second that would criminalize that care (HR3492) - I expect *at least one* will pass the House, potentially both.

Action alerts are already going out.

Keeping people warm is a lot harder this year with the mayor preventing people from forming encampments. Can you imagine being out there and not being able to come together and work collectively?

The question about what to do with supervillains in an abolitionist world assumes that in a world without carceral thinking there will BE supervillains.

Or to put it another way, I have met and represented people who did some really fucked up things. None of them was "born that way."

I don’t often buy items that cost >$80, but I’m realizing that I have definitely not bought any without first making a spreadsheet about it in years

Elected officials must use every privilege, power and platform to fight back, protect families and not fold to fascism.

I'm not afraid to say it, and I won't back down.

ICE is destroying communities across the state. It's time to end the terror. >>>

3 journalists were either gassed, pepper sprayed, or hit with pepper balls today. One of them (a Minnesota Public Radio journalist) had to be hospitalized.

Also, St. Paul police managed to brutalize two state representatives during all this.

Just a sickening rampage

More Black women are evicted every year than Black men are incarcerated. For profit prisons are one of the leading funders of lobbying against tenants' rights ordinances and for strict no-fault eviction laws. The reason is simple: eviction feeds the carceral state.

Fun envelope math: If each of the ~125 million US housing units installed ~1 kW of do-it-yourself "balcony solar" (costing ~$1k each and paying back in ~5 years at ~15% capacity factor and ~15 c/kWh), that'd be 125 GW of solar, or ~50% of the total solar capacity that exists in the US today.
Balcony solar gains unanimous bipartisan support in Utah
A new Utah bill allows portable solar power systems of up to 1.2 kWac to connect directly to 120V outlets without interconnection applications or utility fees, provided they meet NEC and UL certificat...
