Trying to read more fiction to escape the horrors.

Oh this is a thinly-veiled, distant world analogy for the horrors.

So many kids on the UniUK subreddit worried about the future of computer science qualifications becoming less valuable because of AI… it’s going to be more important than ever that someone can fix this shit! Please learn to code, children!
It's 2030. There is a massive demand for human senior developers to fix garbage made by Vibe coders. 🙃

So much of ‘AI education’ I’ve witnessed makes it clear how much *extra work* you have to put in to make the output true/reliable/safe… it’s almost like just not using it in the first place is more efficient! Who woulda thunk?!
This is exactly what I mean when I say that it is impossible to reduce friction, only to move it around.

The text-making-up machine dropped the friction of "research" to zero, but every single person downstream of that "research" who has to act upon it now shoulders a double workload.
Librarian here. Got an email from a patron about our "poor selection" of books on AI, w/ list of new books that we HAD to get so ppl could stay informed about this important subject. Title, author, synopsis.

Of 11 titles on the list, 10 Did Not Exist. At all.

"Yeah, I got it from Ch*tGPT, why?"

Relationships are being destroyed thanks to spiritual mania, supernatural delusions, and arcane prophecy — all fueled by AI chatbots:
People Are Losing Loved Ones to AI-Fueled Spiritual Fantasies
Marriages and families are falling apart as people are sucked into fantasy worlds of spiritual prophecy by AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context*

Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when

An LLM just generates text
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

Should We Start Taking the Welfare of A.I. Seriously?
As artificial intelligence systems become smarter, one A.I. company is trying to figure out what to do if they become conscious.

A lot of "post-left" personalities like Brand claim they were pushed away from the left but were in fact drawn to the right as a means of escaping accountability for their own actions
Russell Brand has spent the past few years aligning himself with the American right as allegations of sexual violence were made public against him. He knew he would find defenders and protection among their ranks. That should tell you everything you need to know about what the party represents

Oh my god they literally confused it with Norfolk
So the reason Norfolk Island copped a dramatically higher tariff than the rest of Australia is two shipments of Timbaland boots from the Bahamas and some aquarium supplies from the UK that had their point of origin mislabeled or misrecorded.

"to democratize art is not every person having a cute drawing made in seconds, to democratize art is every person having time and health to learn and make art if they chose to, and mainly to have the means to think and relate introspectively with art."

More praise for THE AI CON:

"A powerful and timely deep dive into what the AI hype cycle is REALLY about, why it’s bound to crash, and what we can all do to protect ourselves from it. An absolute must-read!"- @kortizart.bsky.social

The bubble has been bubbling for a few quarters now.

Is there a word for pumping as much air into a catastrophic bubble right before it's about to deflate? Because that's what's happening right now.
Some astonishing numbers in here:
-OpenAI loses $2 for every $1 it makes
-OpenAI projects annual losses of $14 billion by 2026
-To break even OpenAI needs to increase revenue 25x in just 5 years
-33% of VC portfolios are committed to AI
-5 AI-heavy stocks account for 29% of the S&P 500's value
Bubble Trouble
An AI bubble threatens Silicon Valley, and all of us.
