This slow erosion of writers’ value sucks, a lot. To put things in perspective, my first paying gig, in 2000, was a Chrono Cross guide. They offered me $1600 just to rewrite the guide I had posted on GameFAQs! A few months later they gave me $2K to write a Skies of Arcadia guide! That’s nuts.

This quote wormed its way into my brain, so I spent a li'l bit looking at some examples. I pulled the review data from OpenCritic, used the normalized (% score) scores, and compared Avg. vs. Median for a handful of games. Median almost always bumped scores a few points higher than the average.
