In 2026 let’s normalize masking for public health.

If we could admit that with healthcare being gutted, vaccine access restricted and previously eradicated diseases coming back… having an extra layer like a respirator makes good sense.

Let’s also normalize not mocking people who mask!

In case you don’t know this already: you don’t get to ask strangers why they are using literally any accessibility tool. Be it a mask, a wheelchair, glasses, a cast: it is actually not your business.
Disappointed to see Jon Stewart & co joke about masking in public. I do it for my medically fragile daughter (Batten Disease). People not masking properly led to her getting pneumonia, which led to her being on life support, which led to me getting price quotes on her cremation just in case.

absolute best case scenario when you make fun of someone wearing a mask is you’re joking about a family member with a chronic respiratory illness. anti-mask shit won. you won! what more do you want

Jon Stewart built a ton of cultural capital thanks to a good writer's room for a cable show, and he has coasted on that for a long time. No wonder he and Dave Chappelle are still so close.

This is one of the reasons the “Covid is just a flu” narrative always bothered me.

It minimized the risk of COVID while also downplaying the severity of the flu.

The flu is not a joke. It can & does kill. It can & does disable.

Please get vaccinated.

A well fitted mask like an N95 helps too!
The death of any child is tragic. We always think it will not be my child, they are healthy. Severe influenza can be unpredictable & deadly. Getting vaccinated considerably reduces dz severity and deaths. Please make sure you are vaccinated & your children are too.

Other people wearing masks hurts absolutely nobody & as was extensively pointed out at lockdown, has been a perfectly normal part of a lot of Asian daily life for decades. Is it really so hard to not punch down? Stewart was making a bunch of r-word jokes the other week, and its really ick behaviour.

Seeing so many “woke up sick” today posts. You guys. There are relatively inexpensive otc flu/covid combo tests you can get and have everyone take before meeting for Christmas. Why do you insist on doing this every year? You don’t get a lot of time off! Why spend it sick??

one of the truly depressing things about the culture war over masks is that we simply refuse to treat them as a tool to mitigate the spread of illness! it should be normal to wear a mask in public when you don’t feel well even if it’s not about saving anybody’s life!!!!! why would you mock that
or- and this will blow too many minds, for reasons that depress me deeply-

THEY CARE ABOUT OTHER PPL

hence find it totally worthwhile

TO DO THIS 1 EASY FKN TRICK THAT MIGHT SAVE A LIFE OR FEW (+if nothing else save ppl some real unpleasant days/missed pay)
These people aren't masking for shits and giggles- they are the immunocompromised, elderly, and others who are, or believe themselves to be, particularly vulnerable to infections of airborne viruses such as sars-cov-2, influenza, etc.

Why the fuck do you care, so much that you mock those doing so? Is it HARMING you? Because all you fuckers who decided NOT to mask when it was/is STILL CIRCULATING were/are genuinely harming the quality of life of every responsible &/or immunocompromised person who masked/masks & we JUST GET TO DEAL
Dear Jon Stewart c/o @weeklyshowpodcast.bsky.social
I recently watched, with great surprise and disappointment, a weeklyshowpodcast segment in which you and other "personalities," gleefully mocked and derided the relatively small subset of individuals who continue to wear a face mask in public.

The only reason I can think to bully a small minority of people not doing you any harm is you desperately need to normalize treating them like shit so you feel better about your own behavior, which you know is wrong.

There are 20 million people in the US with long covid, and tens of millions more with a high risk/immunocompromised condition.

Why, in 2025, are you mocking disabled and sick people??

Even if you truly think that all of these mask wearers are simply suffering from some type of delusion or mental disorder, do you really feel that subjecting them to public shaming and ridicule is the most appropriate course of action and in their best interest?

Disappointed tho not surprised, but it should not go unremarked upon that Jon Stewart’s arguably best act is his unflagging advocacy for 9/11 first responders who suffered permanent disability from—yes—working amidst deadly airborne matter without proper protective equipment (like, y’know, masks).

We need those who claim to be “left” to stop punching down on the disabled, covid cautious and immune compromised.

Masking is resistance.

It’s community care.

The ruling class wants you sick and weak so you won’t fight back.

Healthcare is being gutted.

There’s never been a better time to mask
