A daily calendar by @thelatestkate.bsky.social I bought a couple years ago was really cute and uplifting
what was your favorite calendar you’ve ever used?

for me: wall calendar of vintage fruit crate label art

nowadays Anne Taintor or cat-themed wall calendar

for desk calendars, I always loved Sarah’s Scribbles but those aren’t made anymore

I bought a 2025 Strange Planet page-a-day for my desk

Oh my. No.

And that's why "slop" is Merriam-Webster's word of the year.

In a slightly punk move, I trimmed my own hair today instead of getting a cheap haircut at Great Clips. There was just this one section on both sides that's never looked right in the six weeks since my last haircut. I think I did a good job.

God I'm giving into rage bait and annoying discourse on here. I need to go touch all the grass.
Putting the Christmas stuff away is likely on my to-do list.

Plenty of apartments in CA don't 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have never not had a dishwasher and never not had a drying rack because some dishes have to be washed by hand or the dishwasher is full & running and I have more dishes to be cleaned (so they can sit out dirty or be washed)

I'm not sure what the fuss is about.
imagining living with anyone or in any place *without a dishwasher* is what gives me the ick
OK team, there is a debate in the girls chat, and I have absolutely no idea which side to join in with, if any

If you, a girl, go home with a guy, and he has dishes in his sink or dish drying rack, does that give you the ick

one of many reasons that the organized critique and refusal movement is overwhelmingly led by women (yes including women computer scientists, cognitive scientists, and engineers)
John is tongue in cheek, but there's a statistic in Laura Bates new book that 90% of deep fakes made are of women, and if you don't process the implications of that and come out demanding regulation I'm not sure you're reachable.

You know what IS being pushed out of "our" lives? Diverse voices.

Google "book bans." Google "DEI bans." Or just turn on the fucking news.

Choosing to frame white men's apparent struggles to be rewarded, awarded and cheered as the problem to be solved sure is a fucking choice in 2025.

And again, the problem isn't that white men are having trouble getting published now. They're more published than ever.

The problem is, it's harder for them to be celebrated for it now.

The problem was there at the start of the article that set me off. The problem is the applause.

Even more telling, *the intro to the Vox podcast* casually drops in the fact (the only primary source I can find cited in any of this) that, while women now publish more books than men, MEN ARE STILL PUBLISHING MORE BOOKS NOW THAN THEY EVER HAVE BEFORE.

There is MORE room now, not less.

The idea is that white men today are unnaturally paying for the sins of the past. But the truth is that white men of the past, who faced an unnaturally cleared field, didn't have to pay natural costs of their present.

White men now have to compete with diverse voices. Nothing's been taken.

I have to confess something: My brain is swiss cheese - I probably will never read your book. But I will celebrate you doing that work, and I will share your links, because I know someone out there will feel that work. And I know you're happy. And that makes me happy. 💜
