"We don’t need any more irony-poisoned hot takes or cathartic, irreverent snark. We need to collectively decide what kind of world we actually do want, and what we’re willing to do to achieve it."

This is exactly what I've been begging people to understand for YEARS.

IME, Asian grocery stores are also locales where masking both among staff and patrons is overall higher than in other groceries (at least here in Austin, I haven't seen more than one mask at HEB in months) and for those who remain COVID-averse, that's a huge plus
i need people to understand that asian grocery stores aren’t just a lifeline to asian americans: they’re also a source of fresh and affordable produce to low income non-asians who live in HCOL areas

Asian grocery stores are a lifeline to the communities they serve. But store owners say the prospect of sweeping tariffs are threatening their ability to stock up on goods and keep prices affordable.

I'm already sick of the dire wolves even though they're adorable pups I would die for.

This isn't de-extincting.

This isn't Good Science.

It's kinda cruel to bring them back into a world with no environmental protections and where rich assholes like Donny Jr would want to hang a head on the wall.

I saw a post a long time ago about how millennials have to use their computers, not phones, for big purchases, etc. and Gen Z doesn’t. Never have I felt that more than attempting to write a time-sensitive pitch in the google docs app on my phone. This is a *computer* situation!

Scientists love to debate and argue, but if there are 3 things every scientist absolutely agrees on, it's that:

1. Climate change is real
2. Vaccines work
3. Those are NOT dire wolves 😤

The censorship we are seeing online and off, the demonization of masturbation and sexual expression, the resurgence of attacks on LGBTQ+ people as 'groomers,' the panic over stepmom videos, can be traced back to religious groups need to excuse Duggar.

Duggar was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison after a federal investigation found he downloaded the images on his work computer in 2019.

Everything in this thread - and to supplement it:

It's important to remember that, to the Evangelical Right, *any* use of porn is porn addiction. *Any* extramarital sex is sex addiction.

You saw this framing, too, with Robert Aaron Long's 2021 murder spree in Atlanta massage parlors.
A quick reminder that the main reason the public adopted the idea of "pornography addiction" is because a Christian child rapist got caught and needed something to blame.

It is not based in science. It is not recognized by medical groups. It's Church dogma.

👇🎯 We are having trouble using proper terminology because it requires us to fully accept exactly what has happened to our country & wrestle with the fact that every single one of our elected representatives in Congress is violating their oaths of office by not immediately impeaching & removing him.
Kidnapping.

Capturing a person against their will without due process is called kidnapping.

Transporting them to another country without due process is called human trafficking.

A squalid extrajudicial prison for people found guilty of no crime is called a concentration camp.
stop calling things deportation just because they call it deportation.

-You cannot legally deport people without due process.

-You cannot legally deport citizens.

-They are defining down deportation to break the law.

It's easy to say "well then just stop cheap imports." But I don't think Americans are returning back to those prices. In early 1960s, US households spent 12% of their income on apparel (or $4,157 in today's dollars). In 2016, it was 4% (or $1,803). And that's with larger wardrobes!

I support the US garment industry. I don't believe in making life harder for immigrants or erecting blanket tariffs. So how can we reshore some of our US garment manufacturing without xenophobia or protectionism? Here's my view. 🧵

One reason the news isn't getting out is because our university leaders have completely failed to engage in the public square with loud, unified, collective statements explaining to the public how the NSF/NIH/budget cuts are an existential threat to higher education & scientific research in 🇺🇸
This is a big deal. Spread the word. But it’s tiny compared to the totality of what’s happening at NIH. Cure Research for all cancers, Alzheimer’s, everything is being gutted. Intentionally. It’s all getting burned to the ground but the news isn’t getting out. The new cures won’t be there for you.
I would be making a big deal out of this if I were an elected Democrat

Few Americans know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

To be fair, one man technically does not have this kind of power; he has it only because he has the support of an entire political party and its movement
One man just wiped out $10 trillion in wealth, is destroying centuries-old legal protections, and seems determined to unravel humanity’s greatest public health achievement. In 3 months.

I don’t know how we get out of this. But if we do, one person can never have that kind of power again.
