An engineer just making my way through it somehow. Virginian. I have two dogs.

Nothing good starts in a getaway car.

One of my dogs recently started doing this thing where she stands by the back door and looks out, like she has to pee. But when I get up and go to the door, she immediately turns around and jumps into the seat I was in because that’s what she wanted all along.

I still maintain the single worst change Elon made in terms of pure user experience was updating replies to favor the people willing to pay for the blue checks

instantly - overnight - reply sections changed from a font of creative riffing to a barren wasteland of the worst posts imaginable
I left twitter a year ago and I wish I could say it was for moral reasons but it was mostly because it just stopped working and it felt like there were more real people here despite the smaller user base

Bernie Wagenblast is a name forever etched in my mind because she used to send an email newsletter on transportation research and news every day while I was in grad school. Part of my undergrad research project was included in one of those, too. I had no idea she was the voice of the subway.
Nice touch - the trans announcer from the subway (“Stand clear of the platform edge”) is doing the announcing

This all reminds me of my grandpa in the years before he died. Old man health issues.

My sister was looking through old photos and found one of her at Disney World that she didn’t recognize. She somehow blocked out all memories of going there in 1997, when she was 15.

I said it might’ve been because our father had left a few months later – the 28th anniversary is tomorrow morning

I’m trying to work from home, and Lily has just slowly walked backwards around my chair twice. I wish she would just nap like her sister

Since this article is coming up again for some reason, this is what I think:

1. If USPS wants to redefine what a postmark means, that’s fine as long as it’s disclosed. They also get to change their delivery timeframes, it’s just the way it is. People who rely on a postmark date need to adjust.
Your ballot or other mail may not get postmarked by USPS the day it's dropped off
Close to a deadline for mailing your ballot, tax return or legal document? To make sure it gets a postmark on time under the latest USPS changes, you may want to send it early or visit a post office.

A bunch of vivid dreams last night.

In one of them, I had been trying to set up an important meeting with VDOT. The morning of the meeting, I was getting ready but discovered that my mom had moved all of my pants to another room that I couldn’t access. I was so mad.

I really need to start doing my continuing education classes before I’m stuck doing them all the last weekend in January

23 shots complete, 40.2 pounds lost. It has been up and down the past few weeks, but I seem to be back on track at a somewhat slower loss rate. Which is fine because my stomach has also been feeling mostly better.
When I was doing my shot this morning, I reflexively jumped back and pulled it out. Sigh.

Anyway, 20 shots complete, 38.4 pounds lost, 6.5 pounds to my original goal weight.

I’ve done all the decorating and cleaning that I’m going to do. The whole time I’ve been thinking about my mom and grandma, who used to host for Christmas Eve, and now it falls to me.

An example: In early July, I bought a box of Drumstick cones and ate all but one before I started taking zepbound. I still have that cone in my freezer. I just don’t have the desire to eat it or any ice cream.

I also don’t buy chips anymore for the same reason.
Ozempic is changing the foods Americans buy | Cornell Chronicle
The new class of weight-loss and diabetes drugs are changing not just how much American households are eating, but even precisely what they buy at a supermarket or restaurant.

That Neil Diamond movie is not based on the Neil Diamond musical? As in a completely different story?

Like, Dominion has spent billions of dollars on the offshore project that’s under construction now. They had a Jones Act compliant ship made just for this purpose. Dominion is also under the gun because so many data centers are in its territory. And now this administration is trying to kill it

It’s arbitrary. They studied the shit out of that project through the EIS.
