Putting a molecular spin on fetal germ cell development. My dog has a stroller, and I don't care what anyone thinks about it. Postdoc in Capel lab @ Duke. K99 recipient. Hoping to covert it to R00 in 2026. On the market!

This is the playbook, folks.

If you're not paying attention now and doing something about it, then you're going to have to sit down the rest of your life because democracy is being taken away.

Do not be quiet in this moment.

Current and former members of the NIH community have valuable personal perspectives to share about the devastation that is happening to US biomedical research, our federal agencies, and our democracy. This starter pack is a great way to hear what they have to say and what you can do about it.

All I want is a TT faculty position and the country to come together to resist authoritarianism. Is that so much to ask??

Lol. Sorry to say, Jay, but we’ve been doing this.

We just never saw the need to make it into a stupid slogan that matches the inside of **ump’s penthouse 🙄

(I can’t even spell his name.)

Sex-converted testis somatic cells acquire female-specific behaviors and alter XY germline identity

Read this #OA Research Article by Tiffany V. Roach, Sneh Harsh, Rajiv Sainath, Erika A. Bach, Kari F. Lenhart @lenhartlab.com

Fig. 2. The sex-converted soma performs collective rotation similar to female follicle cells. (A-C) Time-lapse imaging of somatic expression of UAS tubulin::GFP (green) and UAS anillin::RFP (magenta) in a control testis (A), a control ovary (B) and a 5D chinmoRNAi testis (C). White outlines circle groups of cells that are either non-migratory or migratory. Curved arrows indicate directional migration of cells. (A′-C′) Time-lapse imaging of somatic nuclei (gray) in a control testis (A′), a control ovary (B′) and a 5D chinmoRNAi testis (C′). Yellow transparent dots indicate cell migration over time. Asterisks in A-C′ indicate stem cell niches. Each image is composed of one or two z-slices. Images are representative of 10/10 testes (A), 10/10 ovarioles (B) and 7/8 testes with complete somatic epithelium.

@morielab.bsky.social proudly presents a tool to induce, in S. cerevisiae, DNA double strand breaks in a site-specific AND in a dose-dependent manner, in a very simple way: just transform two plasmids!!! It allows you to assess many aspects of DNA damage signaling & repair!

Using CRISPR-Cas9, we engineered a genetic system allowing the dose-dependent induction of a controllable number of DNA double-strand breaks in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The tool was used to study th....

You do not have to say “pro vaccine groups.” You can say the vast majority of doctors and scientists and the American Medical Association.

Today, my NIH colleagues and I did something scary but really important. We spoke up about egregious harms we are seeing happen to research participants and public health through thoughtless and politicized policies at NIH. 🧵1/3

Every scientist should discuss the consequences of the NIH and NSF grant terminations and delays and failure to fund at their home institution at the end of a talk or seminar. Even if a scientist’s own funding is not threatened, I GUARANTEE there is someone at their institution affected.

It's breaking my brain to hear amazing talks that show treatments that help patients developed out of fundamental research, while temporarily ignoring the backdrop of the American science funding disaster

Perhaps relevant as scientists weather a range of attacks, our team (led by UW research scientist Rachel Moran) published a paper describing how a slew of public records requests impacted our work & what that means for collaborative research in adversarial spaces & times: dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

America cannot long remain free, nor first among nations, if it becomes the kind of place where universities are dismantled because they don't align politically with the current head of the government.
