This is retired Army Staff Sergeant Sean Ortega, the first openly trans service member. He served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was involved in 400 combat missions.

REPOST if you stand with Staff Sergeant Ortega against the Trump Administration's hateful actions!

The University of Michigan Faculty Senate approves a mandate to protect our core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our vote is a “binding action of the University faculties.”

In response, U-M Provost McCauley directs deans to remove the term DEI from websites.

As the Regents inform us, shutting down our DEI office was about "administrative bloat."

Our liaison to the Regents, the University Secretary, makes $476,969/year.

His chief aide: $270,393

Bonus content: we're still paying our PREVIOUS secretary. $435,075. I hear she's meant to revise our Bylaws.

and rather than fire twenty (mostly) Black women working for equity at @umich.edu, we should have hired 20 more and asked Eisgruber at @princeton.edu if we can join his lawsuit.
Now I’m just a small town country lawyer but it feels as though rather than abandoning our most targeted and marginalized communities to win over 19 bigots, Democrats should run on “we’re going to impeach remove and imprison that demented evil criminal fuck and his pale ratty Nazi billionaire, too”

Protests aren’t the only tool in the anti-authoritarian toolkit, but they’re incredibly important. Protests help us see each other; they make it feel safer to refuse to obey the dictator, and make it more possible for us to organize mass non-cooperation.

It’s an essential step in the process.

NEW: Incredible scenes in Washington DC now.

Tens of thousands on the National Mall for the #HandsOff protest against Trump & Musk.

There must be over a million people protesting across every US state today.

Protests show that people are paying attention. Protests show that people aren’t going to go along with things. Protests matter.
Protest changes the permission structure. It says fascists will not be allowed to proceed unencumbered. And if you didn't think there was anything to be done, a protest shows you many think otherwise.

Most have focused on the fact that @umich caved to the fash, but we should also take a moment to appreciate this encapsulation of the enshittification of what used to be a pretty good public university.

Do you have republican reps? Now is the time to call. They only need to flip 3 to keep Musk out of your most sensitive data. Right now he may have access not only to your SSN and tax records, but also potentially whatever bank accounts you use to pay taxes/receive refunds.
House Democrats are introducing the Taxpayer Data Protection Act to protect Americans’ sensitive information & essential benefits like Social Security & Medicare.

If just three House Republicans side with the American people instead of Elon Musk, we can pass this critical bill.
