Smart thread from @hoanssolo.bsky.social about the fetish for decisive battles when attrition (and I'd add political will) win wars. As @ldfreedman.bsky.social and @eliotacohen.bsky.social have argued in their excellent work. The mistake could cause support for Ukraine to falter.
However, wars between major powers are not decided by great battles but by attrition of soldiers and materiel. Attrition in turn is determined by such things as force size/employment, logistics, production, and technology.

I feel this in my bones. Been trying to implement a battle rhythm on a HQ staff for about a year. It starts at the top.
I am convinced that the majority of Marine Corps units have a schedule, not a battle rhythm, which is why there are so many meetings where people show up, there is no agenda, no one knows what to expect, and no decisions are made nor guidance given. It’s why we lurch from one fire to the next.
