Alle Parteien, die vom Verfassungsschutz als rechtsextremer Verdachtsfall oder gesichert rechtsextrem eingestuft werden, sollen durch das Bundesverfassungsgericht überprüft werden. Es ist Parteien in Deutschland verboten, die Demokratie abzuschaffen. In Deutschland wird alles geprüft - von der Produktsicherheit bis zur Wasserqualität. Es wäre absurd, ausgerechnet bei der existenziellen Frage unserer Demokratie auf eine Prüfung zu verzichten.

In Deutschland wird Ordnung großgeschrieben, daher prüfen wir grundsätzlich alles, auch Parteien. Wenn eine Partei als rechtsextremer Verdachtsfall oder gesichert rechtsextrem eingestuft wird, sollte sie geprüft werden. Das ist der nächste logische Schritt.

I've long advocated for free education at all levels, but never heard the case for it put quite so forcefully.
But have you noticed the way so many of us have bought into these toxic spiritual notions as well? Take, for example, education. Think of the way so many of us consider areas of study valuable along the lines of how much money it will make, which is a function of the fact that a decent education costs an astonishing amount of money to acquire, which is itself a function of the belief that education should cost an astonishing amount of money, which is itself a function of the belief that everything should be made as profitable (that is, as efficient to the process of capitalism) as possible. Think of the ways obscure branches of scientific inquiry are mockingly dismissed as obviously foolish wastes, while the pursuit of any art whatsoever is mocked and derided by humans whose main engagement with human art appears to be hoping for machines to rise that will supplant the need for reliance on humans for the creation of it, so that those humans can be disposed of. In fact, for these humans, the disposal of humans appears to be the main purpose, and a good thing in and of itself. It really is the damndest thing to listen to these humans talk, these self-created monsters, who have rejected their own humanity so that they can more efficiently reject the notion of humanity altogether.

Shortly before he died, Terry Pratchett assured me that, if there is an afterlife, he would give me a ring and let me know. That was ten years ago - and still no call. From which, incidentally, I draw no firm conclusions. What if there was an afterlife, but with no phone signal? But of course there is one place where Terry indisputably lives on: in the pages of his books and in the minds of the millions of readers around the world who turn those pages and continue to find them funny and true. For, while his words live on, so does Terry, and that will be the case, no question, not just for this one decade so quickly gone, but for many further decades to come. So let me join Lyn and Rhianna in raising a glass today to the magical persistence of books and to Sir Terry; gone but still so very firmly with us. Rob Wilkins
