Jesus stood with the poor, the downtrodden, the immigrant, the lepers, the blind, the hungry, and the women. He didn't believe that money should be the only goal in life. He taught that love and kindness toward our fellow human beings is what counts, not hatred and cruelty. This was his lesson.

things that arent the future of civilization

- chatbots
- crypto
- robot butlers
- cars that sorta drive autonomously as long as youre paying attention for when they fail and almost kill a bunch of people

things that actually are the future of civilization

Everyone deserves joy. And it's pretty ironic for the capitalist class to complain that Gen-Z is finding what joy they can afford--given how little they're paid and how much debt they've been forced to carry--in a store-bought pastry or coffee cup.
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

This is going to sound dumb, but sports is maybe supposed to be consumed this way? Porno sax gave way to Sports Shouting and in retrospect the former was clearly keeping the fabric of society together.

Evangelicals like to claim that the USA is a "Christian Country"

If we really were a Christian Country there would be no hunger, no poverty, no homeless, no one denied health care, immigrants would be welcome, the downtrodden would get assistance, the disabled would not see discrimination.

I know there's a lot going on, but the Secretary of Homeland Security declaring that federal troops are in California and Los Angeles to "liberate" the state and city from its duly-elected leaders really is a fourteen-alarm fire.
It's mind-blowing how little attention this extraordinary statement has received. It's briefly mentioned in a couple news articles, but this MSNBC opinion piece is the only extended discussion of it I've seen: www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

A couple (50s?) are sitting in deckchairs by a campervan, watching the sea. They're both holding plastic martini glasses. A small cocktail shaker and an ice bucket sitting nearby. Blue sky overhead, the odd fluffy cloud drifting overhead, sheep baaing in the distance. This is the life. (3)

I agree. Also, at a time when the Democrats are losing traction with young voters, why shouldn't an 81-year-old progressive incumbent in a safe Democratic seat who has served for 25 years NOT leap at the chance to be replaced by an engaging, media savvy young progressive who has stepped up?
i am a professional politics knower and without passing judgment on today’s little argument i will say that i agree with this. no one is entitled to a seat and if someone feels they could better represent the area they should go for it.

I'm not a professional politics-knower, but as a voter I just do not find the procedural 4D chess arguments people make with respect to whether someone "should" primary an elected official at all persuasive
