US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent:

What I am urging everyone here to do is sit back, take a deep breath, and let things play out. The worst thing countries can do is escalate against the United States.

First orders of business once Canada enters the EU:
1. Deciding on our EuroVision competitor (Carly Rae Jepsen)
2. Deciding the design to put on the country-specific side of our Euro coin (also, believe it or not, Carly Rae Jepsen)

Canada needs to get in on this in a robust way, and show support for Greenland, Denmark, and other northern European allies, for two important reasons: 1) It's the right thing to do. 2) We could very well be next.
Sweden’s Prime Minister, in a new statement on Greenland:

“We will not let ourselves be blackmailed… Sweden is now having intensive discussions with other EU countries, Norway, and the United Kingdom for a coordinated response.”

I mean... "Over our dead bodies" could be the technical talk.
It’s tough to deal with an American administration that can’t be trusted on anything it says.

"But conservatives say" is a key phrase before the stupidest shit you're going to hear.
California now requires corn masa flour to contain folic acid to reduce birth defects among Latinos. Public health officials have lauded these efforts, but some conservatives say it’s another form of government overreach.
California is adding a supplement to tortillas. RFK Jr. calls it ‘insanity’.

Scrooge did not think of himself as evil. Yes, he was miserly, but he paid the standard (low) wage to his employee, paid his taxes and broke no laws.
But Dickens' point is that it's not enough not to break the laws of God or Man, you need to be charitable.
you think about scrooge and he basically gave cratchit reasonably stable long term employment and paid him more or less enough to raise a family on a single income and he's still a fucking villain. today's billionaires are like 10x worse

Parisot (the Director) tells a story about how Tim Allen just started crying after a scene one day

"I don't like these feelings i'm having." Says Tim. "I'm going back to my trailor" and walks off.

There's silence for a second.

"Oh my god." Says Rickman. "I think Tim just experienced acting."
Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.

Sigourney Weaver reflected on cult classic Galaxy Quest and how she wishes the sci-fi satire had released an R-rated director's cut.

JD Vance is just terribly cast.

We’re all watching a dystopian crime drama play out in front of our eyes and also somehow Chucky the doll is central to it.

There is a direct correlation between how fake your job is and how much value you see in AI
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.
