Saved my thread on A Christmas Carol from Twitter: Something that has really been on my mind watching different versions this year, is the depth of his heart change. These actions are atonement, yes, but not out of fear or guilt. He's finally felt love and joy again waking that Christmas morning. 1/

You cannot value the librarian code of ethics while also being pro-genAI. GenAI is a direct violation of our code of ethics.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Just pulled a loose book from a bookshelf, and regrettably, a secret door didn't open, so I'm afraid your email did not "find me well."

Happy Birthday to J.R.R. Tolkien!!!
His work has shaped who I am and how I move in the world almost more than any other.
The stories and worlds he created are somewhere I return to for comfort time and time again.
I’m so grateful for him and all my trips to Middle Earth ☺️

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want to read books during a raging snowstorm in front of a crackling fire whilst enjoying a plate of emotional support scones?

See, I know this is a bullshit because I’ve read a book written by someone who lived over 100 years ago. I’ve seen a play written by Shakespeare. I’ve listened to music and I’ve read poems that existed before my great-great-great-great grands were born.
A common assumption is that throughout history, people have experienced the same basic range of emotions. A radical field of history now challenges this assumption, Gal Beckerman reports. theatln.tc/KD2QRX9Y

"Let's not be literary snobs. We need different books for different seasons. Sometimes I need a book that will justify the ways of God to men, but sometimes I just need to read about a clever old woman who knits, wears excellent hats, & solves murders in the English countryside."

Using genAI to create 'art' is ludicrous and pretty grim at the best of times, but applying it anywhere near the words and worlds of J. R. R. Tolkien is utterly heinous, and entirely antithetical not only to the thematic foundation of his work, but also to the life of creativity and artistry he led

Throwback to my anatomy-meets-art piece: 'Heart of the Sea' 🌊❤️. A larger wall hanging heart, it's decorated in barnacles, wrapped in tentacles and even features a little starfish. Made in the summer two years ago (and has since sold), it seems appropriate to share on this sunny day!

Suddenly realising that Gandalf's participation in The Lord of the Rings is basically the trope of an old man with a long and dangerous career agreeing to One Last Job Before Retirement
Elrond names the Company of the Ring, from all the Free Peoples:

Hobbits—Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin.
Men—Aragorn and Boromir.
Elves—Legolas.
Dwarves—Gimli.

And, one wizard—Gandalf the Grey shall lead them, ‘for this shall be his great task and maybe the end of his labours.’
