Eephus, a baseball flick, is possibly the most unique sports film I have seen. The structure, which follows a game btwn locals at a field soon to be demolished has a quietly subversive feel in how it lets the "structure" of the game allow the scenes to dip in and out of play plus conversations. 1/2

In June 1986 Fox rounded up the local SF clubs in the area for an advance screening of Aliens.

By the 30 min mark without a xenomorph yet in sight the theater was already rockin’.

Then it got better and 700 people lost their shit for 2 hours.

We learned that night never to underestimate Cameron.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I can’t even imagine being this guy’s lackey/assistant/minion.

“Did you bring the backdrop?”

“Yes but the hotel says…”

“DID I ASK YOU ABOUT THE HOTEL? PUT IT UP! AND GET ME A DIET COKE!”
The crowd around Scott Boras, who brings his own backdrop.

I would like to make QT aware that the end credit Fortnite sequence is an abomination.
Quentin Tarantino wants to make you aware of every single opinion of his, whether you actually want to or not.

Hi again! It's me with an another installment of the last book I ever thought would get banned--my picture book about a unicorn and kitty who are pals. A quick look at what this school district bizarrely found objectionable. 1/
You'll never guess what book got the Carroll ISD school library advisory committee to say "genitals" a dozen times in 20 minutes. @txfreedomread.bsky.social will have more on this story soon, but for now, you have to hear this audio. open.substack.com/pub/franklin...
Please don’t say “genitals” one more time, Carroll ISD SLAC.
Listen to the audio of the committee that decided to ban Pretty Perfect Kitty Corn from Carroll ISD. If you dare.

1) He looks like he aged 5 years in the last 8 months. Good.

2) You would think with all the grifting he could afford a new windbreaker. Usually when you quit a job you have to give back your uniform.
get a load of the "journalist" asking questions at the Pentagon press briefing

Dude is lying about gas prices and still looking to find out who stole his baseball cards.
HASSETT: Gas prices dropped below $2 a gallon in a lot of places

CORDES: Gas prices on average are still at $3 a galloon

HASSETT: For a few states they got below $2

I can’t wait for a gritty multigenerational saga of the rise and fall of the Lollipop Guild.
Plans are underway on future movies in the ‘WICKED’ universe.

I’m in sweatpants on this flight because I had to put my $500 suit in the baggage I had to pay $50 to bring with me.
Duffy: "Trump talks about the golden age of transportation. But the golden age in transportation truly begins with you ... People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly ... so we want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season: Help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

I wouldn’t call it worldly but Bringing Down the House reads like a heart stopping thriller.
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

And public dollars. Because a lot of times those postings are faked because businesses that "are hiring" are eligible for various tax credits or incentives.

Then again, people on unemployment are required to prove they're applying for jobs, so these companies are costing each other money too.
