Update November 22. We’ve updated this article after realising we contributed to a perfect storm of misunderstanding around a recent change in the wording and placement of Gmail’s smart features. The settings themselves aren’t new, but the way Google recently rewrote and surfaced them led a lot of people (including us) to believe Gmail content might be used to train Google’s AI models, and that users were being opted in automatically. After taking a closer look at Google’s documentation and reviewing other reporting, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Gmail does scan email content to power its own “smart features,” such as spam filtering, categorisation, and writing suggestions. But this is part of how Gmail normally works and isn’t the same as training Google’s generative AI models. Google also maintains that these feature settings are opt-in rather than opt-out, although users’ experiences seem to vary depending on when and how the new wording appeared. It’s easy to see where the confusion came from. Google’s updated language around “smart features” is vague, and the term “smart” often implies AI—especially at a time when Gemini is being integrated into other parts of Google’s products. When the new wording started appearing for some users without much explanation, many assumed it signalled a broader shift. We’ve revised this article to reflect what we can confirm from Google’s documentation, as it’s always been our aim to give readers accurate, helpful guidance.

Shenandoah Mountains sketches + cabins + road trip ⛰️🌌

November 17-19, 2025
Sketchbook drawings from the shire inspired room me and my partner stayed in at this cabin resort. Pictured on the left is a page with a wood stove, a semi circular window that looked outside and a circular hobbit like door to enter through. The page on the right is our room with an elaborate wooden door with a tiny door to look through and eccentric furniture The left side of the sketchbook shows individual panels I made to do studies in from the skyline drive. There’s overlooks of the mountain, a road sign, a person’s parked truck. The right side shows a panel of me talking about su*cide on the mountain, parts of the inside of the other cabin we stayed in the following night, a drawing of my partner listening to music and a few outside the window to the fire pit These sketchbook pages are studies of the road heading back (we switched drivers), more of the skyline the following day, some close ups of plants on the mountain and quick studies of some older folks who stopped at the outlook spot we stopped at before heading home

So here’s what apparently happened: they tried to indict Comey on the last day of the statute with a three-count indictment. The grand jury rejected one. Rather than cross it out or indicate on the indictment that only two of the three counts were voted upon, Halligan creates…/1

NEWS: During a hearing in federal court in VA, prosecutors confirmed that the operative indictment in the case against James Comey was never shown to or voted on by the entire grand jury before it was presented in open court.

Defense counsel argued that’s a complete bar to further prosecution
