Prosecutors in Virginia routinely pressure defendants to give up their constitutional protections against unreasonable search for years.

This “encourages bad policing,” one defense attorney told Bolts, since they have “free rein to do whatever they want” with no consequences.
“An Impossible Choice”: Virginians Asked to Waive Constitutional Rights to Get a Plea Deal
Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed a bill that would have barred prosecutors from making defendants waive protections against unreasonable police searches as a condition of pleas.

A real one. With expedited hearings and automatic fee shifting.

New at The Watch: Trump wants to deport more people than the populations of NYC, Chicago, and L.A. combined. It would cost $1 trillion+, and require a force larger than the U.S. Army.

It also can't be done. But that isn't the point. It's about giving his supporters the human suffering they crave.
Trump's deportation army
The former president's vow to deport 15 million people is the cruelest, most illiberal, most openly authoritarian campaign promise in modern U.S. history. Oh, and it would also destroy the economy.

Fun to compare this to the hyperventilating over TikTok/China.
Silicon Valley tech leaders are now openly embracing Middle Eastern oil money, giving Saudi and the UAE unprecedented influence in the U.S. tech industry.

“The Khashoggi era is over,” said a prominent venture capitalist. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...
Silicon Valley once chafed at dictatorships. Then came a Middle East gold rush.
Virtually overnight, the Middle East has emerged as the most powerful geopolitical force in the tech industry, due in part to the Biden administration’s fears about China.

It’s true that Israel has lately been a lot less cagey about their “alleged” nuclear weapons than they have been, including elected officials suggesting they be used on Gaza.

Again, this is a rather relevant factor if you’re discussing why the rest of the world is approaching Israel the way it is.
