I saw a raccoon and a deer chowing down on some foliage on the side of the road while driving home tonight... this is what solidarity looks like...
A very good friend of mine who found out I that I had some car trouble this week, making me unable to go home for Thanksgiving... invited me to her family Thanksgiving instead. I am a very blessed man!

he’s fascinating to me to observe simply as an example of the varieties of human experience. Totally incapable of empathy or even the appropriateness that can serve as a guide to conceal the inability to feel empathy.
Q: Do you plan to attend Sarah's funeral?

TRUMP: I haven't thought about it yet, but it's certainly something I can conceive of. I love West Virginia. You know, I won West Virginia by one of the biggest margins of any president anywhere.

It's moments like these that it's really, really hard to not just write off every single person who still supports this man.

Continually amazed that someone who's been in public life as long as Trump has lacks the capacity to say anything appropriate when someone has died.

This is what differentiates me from RFK Jr and his bandwagon: I can acknowledge the nuances of health issues, and that what doesn't work for me might well work for others. They take away others' options, all the while asserting they're giving people choices.
My own experience with SSRIs was disastrous. I never want to take one again. Getting out of a toxic environment and building up my capacity to tolerate very stressful situations + taking some light amounts of buspirone >>>> Zoloft. But also... it works just great for other people.

Real shame RFK Jr. has totally taken over the reasonable notion that medication is sometimes insufficient to address mental health problems and just made it insane. SSRIs are not some evil drug lol, even if I think sometimes they're overprescribed.

The turkeys in Eau Claire are escalating their war on local residents if reports are to be believed.

Which is why I'm joining the turkey war...

ON THE SIDE OF THE TURKEYS.

This is the first Thanksgiving for Sophie & Colin Hortman without their parents, Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman who were assassinated along with the family dog in an act of political murder. National guards troops were not deployed to the state in response.

Frog tied some string around the box. “There,” he said. “Now we will not eat any more cookies.”

“But we can cut the string and open the box,” said Toad.

“That is true,” said Frog.

The thing about Nazis like Musk and his fanboys is that many of them are savvy enough to understand the social stigma that remains around the label, even if it's weaker than it used to be. It's why we should double down on using these labels: 1. because they're accurate and 2. because they work.
Elon Musk, the guy who did two Nazi salutes in public and has previously described himself as a “free speech absolutist,” thinks it should be a crime to “falsely” call someone a Nazi or a fascist.

How I feel about the whole Olivia Nuzzi story is that there are a lot of talented, ethical, underemployed or unemployed black and brown journalists right now who are ready to work.

This is so funny. Like what workload? Dude's totally surrendered the authority of his branch of government to a charlatan with a 5 year old's understanding of government.

I think plenty of it speaks to the state of the media, but an obvious one is that Vox and Vanity Fair barely investigated her and that she managed to commit an unforgivable journalistic crime before getting a book deal and walking into another prestige job, while plenty of others are being laid off
you know, what if they aren't actually a commentary on journalism or the state of media. what if these people are just extremely weird

"Can you believe someone who was shamelessly biased against the pro-democracy president would bang the subject of a story she was writing about?" Yeah, I can actually. Dunno if Nuzzi is actually a fascist, but she's fine with being a collaborator with them. Potato, pohtato, etc.
A lot of people are like "The Nuzzi affair is a disaster for political journalism in this country" and it's like sure it is but a bigger disaster was the whitewashing of Trump 2024 that most political journalists happily participated in last year.

"Weird and terrifying kinships form" is both accurate and a magnificent turn of phrase
Small town and suburban bars the week of thanksgiving have the most insane vibes—adults at home visiting parents and already going insane and sneaking out at night to drink. Weird and terrifying kinships form

Like here's the thing: the idea that America is some dystopian hellhole for everyone, including financially comfortable people, is hilarious. America is GREAT... if you're rich (or at least pretty financially solid).

Now, if you're working class...
This country really doesn't like people who don't have money

It'd be awesome if the US actually invested in train infrastructure so instead of spending Thanksgiving alone tomorrow because my car is in the shop, I could just YOLO it and hop on a train
