What on Earth ever do they believe they stand to gain, when nothing, nothing at all is all that will remain?

“Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people.” – Rob Reiner

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Got the dreaded ”we see something unusual on your mammogram results” phone call yesterday. Went back in this morning for another mamo and ultrasound. The radiologist looked at everything and said “You’re all clear!”
Women, stay up on your yearly mamo. It’s not fun but it can save your life.

ICYMI — “I identified myself as a U.S. citizen and a veteran, but that didn't matter. ICE Agents smashed my window, sprayed tear gas and pepper spray into my car, dragged me out… this experience violated the very principles I fought to defend.”

Calling the press “fake news” is harmful. Calling them “seditious, perhaps even treasonous” for publishing reporting is something else entirely. Treason is a capital crime. Suggesting journalists should face it for exercising their First Amendment rights and doing their jobs is dangerous.

Unacceptable. The cruelty does serve though, it serves the perpetrators of these barbaric policies in their quest to deter immigration. A form of terrorism that qualifies them as domestic terrorists.
Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

“This is just the beginning.”
Tonight, we did something everyone counted out. We proved to a nation that states like Tennessee are still worth fighting for. The margin was close, and that can only be attributed to the thousands of volunteers who showed out. This is just the beginning.

🧵A legal scholar finds the killing by special forces of survivors in the Navy attack on an alleged drug boat to be a war crime and murder.

"the currently governing DOD Manual in Section 5.9 states clearly that persons “placed hors de combat may not be made the object of attack.” ...
A Dishonorable Strike
Indulging all assumptions in favor of the administration’s boat strikes, killing helpless men is murder

Not only can we recommit to serve the common good of all Americans, humans every where could learn to serve the common good of all humanity. We could even learn to serve all life in its myriad of forms out of compassion and love, and not as transactional acts committed in our own best interests.
The era we are living in offers too many illustrations of greed, narcissism, and hatefulness. But I still believe we can recommit ourselves to serving the common good of all Americans. [Artwork by Jennifer Bloomer]

In the midst of my battle against MTT/MPNST (a rare highly aggressive form of cancer), Sentara notified me that it is no longer “profitable” for them to offer Medicare Advantage Plans in VA. So stressful! So grateful for the ACA & its guarantee of coverage for preexisting conditions. #MTT #sarcoma

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

Think of it this way.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Accountability Matters.
Federal Judge Jeffrey Cummings has found that ICE agents violated the terms of a consent decree by detaining people without proper warrants. He ruled that as of this week ICE must wear body cams at all times and can face arrest and contempt proceedings if they conduct unlawful, warrantless arrests.
