Ah he may go in to see Millwall on the weekend...

I'm probably the worst for this because my YouTube algorithm points towards classic cars, fixing old stereos and cameras, planes etc which quite often ends up at some point going "oh, maaate" when they bring up a hint of politics.

This is seriously weak sauce stuff. Desperately blaming public spending on motability cars being given out like Smarties to people with ADHD.

This will be news to anyone who's had to jump through hoops to get a ECHP for a special needs child.

Ooooh interesting! Badenoch is listing things the Tories did which were bold.

"We were courageous enough to introduce same-sex marriage," she says. There's a puzzled pause in the hall, then a smattering of lukewarm applause.

Then she mentions Brexit and the relieved audience goes wild

Incidentally English graduates are in demand by tech companies who need to translate what they do into understandable language for their business customers in particular.

But why let facts get in the way of a stupid soundbite?
outonbluesix.bsky.social
How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

The Conservative Party's future is currently measured by the life expectancy of its elderly voters.
samfr.bsky.social
If you want to win over younger voters, telling them they can't go to university is probably not going to help.

Presumably Michael Gove (MA English, Oxon) agrees with his protégée’s approach.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

After a trip across Ukraine on trains that keep running in spite of Russian air raids, nothing says welcome home quite like those three magical words:

If you fear that your politics is under threat from future generations becoming more knowledgeable then, well, that says more about your politics than anything else.
thomasig.bsky.social
The whole thing - the cap, English and anthropological studies being "rip-off degrees" - it's all just stupid. That's it, it's the only take that sums it up.

is this the Kemi Badenoch, wanting to cut English, whose slogan misspelled "Britain"
Ignoramus and philistine Kemi Badenouch saying students should not study Englush and "rip-off" degress, the Tories wanting to cut arts, sociology, and anthropology

Nothing says "the party of ambition" like restricting access to higher education.

As with anything medical, so often it comes down to ones own individual circumstances. Everyone is different, everyone reacts to medication/medical treatment differently, be it over-the-counter medication to weight loss jabs to other prescriptions. As with anything, just approach it logically.

There are some unintended consequences of mass introduction of a literal 'wonderdrug.'

Articles around the financial, societal, class consequences are valid, some prejudiced ones about willpower not - but the actual health benefits make all that secondary imo (and more than solvable with willing).
thomasig.bsky.social
So much of the negative commentary around weight-loss jabs are devoid of the actual experience of those who take them - and the real-life health benefits they can have.

James' (excellent) article captures a lot of my experience and some.
thomasig.bsky.social
Great piece. It's funny the similarities some have whilst on them - not just in terms of overall health.

I had a similar experience of being ill earlier this year and immediately jumping to the idea that it was the jabs, when it wasn't (And our wardrobe is also now full of Uniqlo t-shirts).

This lurid headline is about British tourists no longer getting away with overstaying in Schengen. Or being 'illegals', as it's often called in the UK.
thomasig.bsky.social
It sounds almost hyperbolic, but when you consider two UK parties now have a stated policy to deport hundreds of thousands of people with settled status, pushed by extremists whereas a year ago both thought and stated a policy was too extreme, shows the direction we are heading.
