I only got one book for Christmas, but that's okay. There's new Saunders & Knausgård in January. Gotta hold my cards for a few more weeks.

Not all artists are geniuses or world-changers. Some just lighten up the load of living for others. Chris Rea did this for millions of people without ever cheating, with absolute honesty. This is a rare kind of dignity. RIP.

I know his health had been up & down for a while, but this still hurts. I've been a fan of his since the late 1980s. His voice & his stellar guitar playing were both unmistakable.

Yesterday I finished reading my first Hanne Orstavik novel, The Pastor. And it won't be the last.

The #Hawkeyes are taking out their frustrations on Western Michigan, leading 52-16 at halftime. I'm excited to see how this team fares in the Big Ten. I think they're going to give some "better" teams a lot of headaches.
