The man in the queue behind me said Oh excuse me miss, you dropped ----

and then we both stared at the conker I'd dropped on the ground

And he said Umm ---

And I said Oh! My conker! :(

UNISON members who support LGBTIQ+ people may want to actively oppose their union on this one.

I can't emphasise enough that putting this question front and centre as a mandatory requirement, acts largely as a deterrent to accessing healthcare for trans people.

111/NHS direct is a joke. Having to misgender yourself to the people there for no reason is outright humiliating. It's designed to put trans people off reaching out for healthcare support.

There were years of surveys that worked on finding respectful ways to gather this information, disregarded.
NHS

111 online

What was your sex at birth?

Female

Male

This online triage depends on knowing your registered sex at birth, not your gender identity.

If you are doing this for someone else, tell us their sex at birth if you know.

We need to know this information so we can ask relevant clinical questions.

If you feel uncomfortable giving this information, or do not see an option that represents you correctly, you can call 111 to talk to a nurse.

Would love to exist in solely queer spaces, but I also want to know about the safest cycle routes into town
tigslater.bsky.social
What are we meant to do to protect ourselves from seeing this absolutely everywhere

Love that both the local outdoor swimming group and local cycling group I'm in are both now just full of transphobic debate

Little joy today - dug into the heap of stuff I've been piling up in the garden for the last three years and found compost (and lots of woodlice)
A big builders 'dumpy' bag full of compost with two gardening gloves at the top

I understand this feeling so much!

And here’s something you can do to voice your opposition to the RSHE guidance. We must stop it being implemented as it is in September 2026. Tell the government it must be revised.

This is the end result of anti-trans bigotry: more harassment of girls and women, more policing of gender roles, more gender McCarthyism.

I quite liked my representation as the BFG

Trans might not be illegal to discuss but it leaves school with little resource to have a conversation with the children in their class. Assume they won't be able to lean on any of the many trans focused kids books anymore? Someone make it make sense.
tigslater.bsky.social
What are teachers meant to do? Ignore this important part of a child's life that they're bringing to school? Call us in to tell us it's inappropriate, despite them asking the kids to share? Will they be expected to give another side of this 'contested debate', in fear of being sued or in the press?

Or when my 7YO's homework is to make their own coat of arms & they independently make this to take in and want to tell the class about the trans & nonbinary flags as well as how much they love gymnastics?
A child's drawing of a coat of arms. It shows four people, gymnastics equipment and the trans and nonbinary flags

When my youngest starts school reception and we're asked to make a booklet about their family, and they wanna explain why they call me Renny, not mum or dad?
tigslater.bsky.social
So we're promised new trans schools guidance over summer which us unlikely to go well. We've got new rse guidance which is gonna make schools too scared to discuss anything trans anyway. How's this actually gonna work in practice?

Clause 72 in particular is functionally identical to Clause 28 of the Local Government Act in 1988:

"[S]chools... should avoid materials that... could be interpreted as being aimed at younger children, or that... encourage pupils to question their gender."

It's unbearable

Every day I hear of more trans kids dropping (being forced) out of school. Kids who have used the bathroom with no bother for years, sometimes throughout their school years, who are now being forcibly outed, excluded, isolated, & segregated. 1/3
parkesland.bsky.social
This is beat for beat exactly what Section 28 did.

Oh, and you can't blame this one on Tories. This guidance was drawn up exclusively after Labour took power.

This Labour government is the single worst thing to happen to the LGBT+ community since Margaret Thatcher.

Shame on every Labour member.

I mean, that's bad enough.

I can't find the final published guidance?
