I volunteered/served as board chair for City Sprouts - a npo dedicated to teaching inner-city ppl how to grow their own food, organically. Because where our garden was in Omaha was a superfund site.
We taught people to create their own soil, bc theirs was contaminated.

When an Omaha mother discovered high levels of lead in her son’s blood, she looked up EPA soil tests and discovered potentially harmful levels of the metal in her yard.
