JFC!!! Now I’m getting email spam for.. ammunition.. why the FUCK would I be interested? do not want, ESPECIALLY after events that are not even a day old. Fuck this timeline.

@bsky.app I will not verify my age using a third party. Please provide details on your algo that decides who should be subject to that process, or fix it (you’re not even part of Australia’s ban legislation ffs)

Did anyone in Australia escape the banhammer on bsky? Presume they think everyone is only as old as the platform itself
December 9, 2025 at 11:59 PM
@bsky.app any way to proceed with KWS verification without giving out email address at the first pass? bluesky handle should be sufficient to see what verification options/methods are available past the jump. I don’t care what other platforms they provide services for.
Great.. “some features” are now disabled. What features are those? Fuck knows.

First hurdle to certification with KWS? They want my email address just to get started. How about fuck no?

Hey @bsky.app, I am absolutely NOT going to fucking share my personal data with a corporation that will be holding said data outside of my own fucking country.

Kids Web Services (aka KWS) is a subsidiary of Epic Games and they have had data breaches in 2011, 2015, 2016, 2021, 2018, 2019, and 2023.

A bunch of SSDs are apparently failing after a recent Windows patch.

Microsoft says it’s not them, and their metrics aren’t showing any abnormal increases in hardware failures.

Phison, a component manufacturer commonly used in many of the drives that are failing, say they can’t repro any issue.

To Australians concerned about the under-16 social media ban, especially after seeing the effects of the UK's Online Safety, I emailed Electronic Frontiers Australia and they suggested contacting your local MP, senator, or to the minister behind it, Anika Wells.

If you're not familiar, the bill in question here was pushed through in about a week with hardly any consultations and was very problematically worded.

A number of orgs, including Electronic Frontiers Australia, condemned it. #FreeSpeech #australia
endesafety.au Contrary to their name, there have been times when the FSU have said things to the detriment of free speech, however, they are right here. Julie generally behaves like a censorious politician. #FreeSpeech #australia

I personally feel - based off EFF / Electronic Frontiers Australia - that it was rushed as a smokescreen for pushing digital ID to access social media on everyone, and eliminate anonymity. It opens the door to 'we all have to prove we're not 16.' I hope I'm wrong!!

Electronic Frontiers Australia has taken a big swing at Australia's teen social media ban tech trial, with EFA chair John Pane saying there are "serious concerns about the project's methodology".

The trial has finished its report and given it to government, but is not yet public

the other wrinkle in all these "we're banning porn for UK users!" and "bluesky isn't available in mississippi" stories that no one seems to be talking about:
geo-ip is inaccurate as shit, even before VPNs get involved. you can't just detect where people are with any kind of consistency

This is good. Saying we fucked up is the hardest thing to do and I credit Wired for talking about this directly.

It was kind of ironic this dropped the same day they published that story about sending one of their employees to AI vibe code or whatever lol
