"Private equity firms have gained a sinister reputation thanks to a counter-intuitive strategy in which firms can cannibalize their own acquisitions, extracting profits at the expense of the company and its workforce."

EA's $55 billion acquisition is the biggest leveraged buyout in private equity history. Here's why it has everyone terrified
Private equity and PIF investment aren't a reassuring pair.

If you watched the stupid Paul/Tyson fight on Netflix, consider watching a much more interesting fight on Netflix this weekend. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzuf...

This quiz by @chrislivingston.bsky.social is surprisingly hard. Turns out a lot of the games that stick out to me as having been huge hits came out 10+ years ago when there were far fewer Steam users. www.pcgamer.com/games/how-we...

"Yeah—many people are making games for money, but we make money for games. We made money from the mobile market, and then we think, at first, that we'll have to make this game without any support from investors, so we put all of our money from the mobile games into Phantom Blade Zero."
In 15 years of interviewing AAA game developers, I think this is the first time one's straight up told me 'Many people make games for money, but we make money for games'
Well, there it is.

Nowhere can I be myself.

Yes, sorry, by excursion I meant junction, or level. We have informally used "run" to refer to completing a level in some cases, as in the example "runs through each junction."
tjcwilde.bsky.social
It seems to me that by "run," you're referring to an entire playthrough, whereas we have used it to refer to individual excursions ("runs through each junction"). So when we said it became possible to save mid-run, we meant mid-junction. I may still be misunderstanding.

Since you've included me here, I'll say that I object to the characterization of us as cynical haters. The article in question is a lighthearted complaint about an everyday gaming experience, and we've written glowingly about Pacific Drive. I've included a link to aid you with your procrastination.

Thanks for explaining the details here, I’ll digest them with our writers and we’ll think about changes. Seems like some things can be cleared up by avoiding the ambiguity of multiple meanings of “run,” but we’ll also aim to correct any misunderstandings of your design intentions re: save-scumming.
tjcwilde.bsky.social
Hi Seth, do you have time to elaborate? The distinction between "run" and "level" seems to be at the heart of your objection, but I want to be sure I understand correctly. (Your original Steam post appears to be gone.) We certainly don't intend to be inaccurate. My email: [email protected].

"It's buggy. The initial configuration is fiddly. Only a handful of missions are (mostly) playable, and your co-op partner will be riding an invisible horse.

But it's functioning co-op in Metal Gear Solid 5. It's magical—even if it is a bit of a mess."

Yeah they should’ve made it so the boilers didn’t explode. Also it was made for 370 passengers but there were over 2,000 on board.

Nightreign's new Everdark boss may be a gimmick fight, but the gimmick completely reshapes the run and is such a fun surprise. I am so glad that @dilfpatrol.bsky.social agree on this one. www.pcgamer.com/games/action...
Sorry haters, Elden Ring Nightreign's much maligned new Everdark boss is its best yet
I will defend you, Everdark Augur.
