So this British review into whether too many people are getting ADHD and autism diagnoses will be led by a psychoanalyst who thinks everything is about attachment and trauma, and his deputy will be a guy who thinks ME/CFS is primarily a mental health problem.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is sometimes recommended for relieving the symptoms of #LongCovid.

Today the Guardian reports that, in the US at least, HBOT chambers are often unsafe. This can lead to severe accidents.

Are HBOT chambers regulated in the UK?

‘It’s absolute anarchy’: Oxygen therapy chambers have led to horrific deaths. Why are Maha elite raving about them?
Touted as a cure for everything from wrinkles to autism, the treatment has been hyped by Robert F Kennedy Jr and various celebrities. Experts say it needs to be regulated

Wes Streeting is a one-man stigma producing machine. Denying support for trans folks, now seeking to limit who has mental health care.

Why don't we, y'know, invest in housing, communuties, young people, food, art, nature, regulate social media, consider the impact of covid, long covid & deprivation

Wes Streeting orders review of mental health diagnoses as benefit claims soar
Health secretary has asked experts to investigate whether normal feelings have become ‘over-pathologised’ The health secretary, Wes Streeting, has ordered a clinical review of the diagnosis of mental health conditions, according to reports. Streeting is understood to be concerned about a sharp rise in the number of people making sickness benefits claims because of diagnoses for mental illness, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the Times reported. He has asked leading experts to investigate whether normal feelings have become “over-pathologised”, the newspaper said, as he seeks to grapple with the 4.4 million working-age people now claiming sickness or incapacity benefit. The figure has risen by 1.2 million since 2019, while the number of 16 to 34-year-olds off work with long-term sickness because of a mental health condition is said to have grown rapidly in the same period. Streeting told the Times he knew from “personal experience how devastating it can be for people who face poor mental health, have ADHD or autism and can’t get a diagnosis or the right support”. He added: “I also know, from speaking to clinicians, how the diagnosis of these conditions is sharply rising. “We must look at this through a strictly clinical lens to get an evidence-based understanding of what we know, what we don’t know, and what these patterns tell us about our mental health system, autism and ADHD services. “That’s the only way we can ensure everyone gets timely access to accurate diagnosis and effective support.” The review, which is expected to be launched on Thursday, is set to be led by Prof Peter Fonagy, a clinical psychologist at University College London specialising in child mental health, with Sir Simon Wessely, a former president of the Royal College of Psychiatry, acting as vice-chair. Very important study and more evidence that #NeuroCovid can contribute to neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment. When they say 'it's all in your head', they might be trying to be dismissive, but are accidentally being very realistic.

Hudson Bay is finally starting to freeze over in earnest.

2025 will likely go down as the 2nd-longest ice-free period for the Western Hudson Bay polar bear population, continuing the long-term trend (now >1 month longer than in the 1980s).

Reeves's decision to lower energy bills by cutting funding for home insulation isn't a real solution; it's robbing Peter to pay Paul.

But it doesn't need to be this way - by taxing wealth fairly, we can have lower bills and investment in affordable warmer homes at the same time.

Recently, @berkeleyearth.org expanded our temperature database by integrating the HCLIM data set.

The additional data rescued by HCLIM helps improve early reconstructions, but doesn't fundamentally change the large uncertainties due to sparse sampling.
