I was thinking about Dad today because it’s 9/11.

He came with us to Seoul when we picked up my eldest. Our first adoption. He hadn’t been since the army. ‘58. A lot fewer bullet holes and a lot more buildings, he said. We had a blast.

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.
Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

Seriously. You know who has *great* messaging? Cancer researchers! Literally curing cancer! Sells itself!

Still got fed to the DOGE woodchipper.

FEMA and the National Weather Service got fed to the DOGE woodchipper, too. Nobody thought poorly of them until the right did the thing they always do.
You hear this a lot on the left but it isn't true. USAID did not "fail to tell its story to Americans," the right targeted the agency with lies and misinformation.

Ultimately this narrative turns conservative attacks into even more calls for the left to reform.

Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧵 1/17

All we know is Trump's post, and now reports are coming in that there was bombing.

We're not going to know how much damage was done for some time. Tomorrow there may be satellite photos.

If a lot of bombs were dropped at Fordo, Natanz, and Esfahan, the Iranian nuclear program is down.

We don't know how many planes, or how many bombs on each plane, or how big the bombs are. Or how many bombs were dropped on each target.

We need to know those kinds of thing before we can even guess.

I've said this a million times, but the stuff the left did -- trying to marshal social pressure to disincentivize hateful speech -- is the *alternative* to using state force to suppress speech. It's how you try to shape values when you *do* value free speech. But elites hated being subject to it.

Everybody’s heard of the My Lai massacre — March 16, 1968, 50 years ago today — but not many know about the man who stopped it: Hugh Thompson, an Army helicopter pilot.

Let’s talk for a moment about some of the more subtle ways that the press acts as a mouthpiece for law enforcement.

Actor Jonathan Joss was shot to death on Sunday. I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t there. But his husband said a homophobic neighbor shot him as part of an explicit hate crime.

I'm going to state something that's obvious at every university: today was the deadline for folks to decide which grad school they'll join in the fall.

This probably won't make headlines, but because we don't expect normal funding, universities aren't admitting a normal number of students.

The government’s statement is a flex, not a confession of error. The important elements of the flex are these:

1. We send enemies to brutal foreign labor camps.
2. We decide who enemies are.
3. We may decide you are an enemy based on a secret informant, or our view of your tattoos.

1. Democrats ignore right-wing radicalization to focus on economic issues.
2. Right-wing media accuses Democrats of being out-of-touch leftist elites.
3. Centrist media repeats right-wing framing.
4. Democrats double down on economic issues.
