Actually girlfriend of of one of founders of antifa: Hedy Lamarr who literally had to flee the Nazis and created the tech behind WiFi. Also the image that inspired Snow White. Look it all up. 👇🏾

Chicagoans are furious that a convicted felon has sent his thugs here to commit violence against our community. Join us in fighting fascist Republican assholes.

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

speaking of print books, for the locals or those who want some of that Portland flavor, Powell's Books carries "Magica Riot" in print at all their locations! Please consider that option for buying it, too! :D

The Portland author paints our city well in this enjoyable urban fantasy. Not the stereotypical Magic Girl story. Yet does the trope justice, with a twist." A photo of Powell's Books in downtown Portland, taken from across the street and looking at the main entrance

“.. On closer inspection, however, it turned out that the image was not a photograph of a real event in Portland, but instead a fabrication created by combining two photographs of scenes that unfolded in South America nearly a decade apart ..”

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

I made the TikTok life-changing lettuce. Spoiler alert: It was not life-changing. I would have been better off just putting my favorite dressing on a pile of chopped iceberg lettuce.

Another thing I dearly loved about Osaka is the fact that businesses like stores and restaurants are taxed according to their square footage, but their signage isn't... so you get a bunch of teeny tiny standing-space street vendors with signs THE SIZE OF GOD.

The biggest and worst contributors to global warming are and have always been corporations, be they manufacturing, transportation, agribusiness, or just about anything else. Companies have always been the biggest polluters, and they do everything they can to divert blame away from themselves.

with Portland there's the depressing addendum that 90% of why this is happening is the right wing media grifter ecosystem got badly addicted to viral Portland content during the Trump years and they've been fiending for another hit ever since

its truly remarkable, you have to really take the measure of it and it's almost hard to comprehend it, but the president of the united states is having texas invade illinois and oregon just to make twitter content
