In case you're wondering, authoritarians use this strategy of escalation to manufacture crisis, provoke outrage, then use the reaction to justify repression. It’s not about restoring order, it's about creating a spectacle of chaos they can claim only they can control.
Escalating to escalate.

Democracy isn't dying quietly.
It’s being suffocated, by noise, lies, distraction, and systems that profit from confusion.

But we’re not here to mourn it.
We’re here to fight for what comes next.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

Our information space is nothing less than a geopolitical battleground.

Russia has invested over a billion euros in their state-controlled propaganda outlets in the last few years. It is increasing year on year.

The result? A fragmented public consciousness where competing realities coexist, each self-reinforcing and resistant to correction. When truth is no longer a shared foundation, power shifts to those who control the most compelling narrative - no matter how detached from reality it is.

If someone had released a political satire movie or series a few years ago depicting what’s currently going on in the US, it would have seemed unrealistic and far-fetched. While "Don't Look Up" was good, it still falls short of capturing the reality of what's happening right now

Sanna Marin throwing some impressive shade here:

”To start, Europe must rid itself of the dangerous illusion that it is weak—and stop acting like it.

There is no trade-off between investing in the defence of Europe as a whole and investing in the defence of Ukraine—they are one and the same.”
Now is the time for Europe to show strength, not division, argues Sanna Marin

Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good.
This is what we now know, and what we have to do about it:🧵1/17

“Today the concept of a rules-based international order looks more and more utopian…” People need to wake up - we need an international system based on rules, not force.

OTD in 2022 one of my parody embassies reminded us that suggestions Russia would invade Ukraine were fakes spread by USA.

Seeing as we didn't invade you can believe our promises now about stopping the invasion.
