It sounds nice to have your own pool, but have you considered how amazing it is to have a pool in walking distance where there's almost always friends and snacks around, trained lifeguards, and zero extra costs or maintenance on your end. Public amenities are amazing!

Yes... research the publisher... in contrast to this AI story, the very human copyeditor on a book I'm working on for @fernpub.bsky.social includes in her notes many funny asides! #delightful!
apuddleofmuddle.bsky.social
The publisher has cut their costs by outsourcing to this company, the company has cut their costs by using AI/low-paid staff instead of paying for a proper job, while I’ve spent hours & hours fixing the manuscript, so all the extra labour from cost-costing has fallen on me, the unremunerated author

It's very encouraging for Toronto that its newly-hired Chief Planner is touring Copenhagen for ideas (and posting about it).

Note that the City of Ottawa has been without a chief planner since 2022.

Most malls make you cycle through the parking lot to get around them. Not in Copenhagen. This is the Cykelslangen at (around) the Fisketorvet mall.

Very much hope journalists will investigate the cancellation of the 2026 annual meeting of the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is a pretty seismic event in Canadian Higher Ed.

Sadly, given the state of Canadian journalism, I'm not holding my breath.

Commercial rent control, shop local campaigns and small business tax classes: yes, for sure. But we also need to embrace not-for-profit models. Cities including Ottawa already own, for example, public market spaces. Why not main street? Not-for-profit land trusts?
Toronto’s neighbourhoods are losing local storefronts fast. Here’s what can be done to save them
‘Buy local’ is having an effect, but experts say more can be done to keep the local shops that make Toronto’s neighbourhoods vibrant.

Is there like a non-misogynist comedy scene in Ottawa somewhere? I don't need feminist comedy... just not the rape jokes always on offer at Absolute.

Where’s Pierre?! He’s missed every debate in Carleton, he doesn’t answer emails from his constituents, and he only visited this riding by accident last week.

Help us win. Sign up to volunteer this weekend!

Wonder how you lose your democracy? Proactively giving legitimacy to peddlers of disinformation is definitely near the top of the list.

The Centretown Community Association has sent a letter supporting bus lanes on Bank Street.

We need better buses and less traffic on Bank Street!

@arieltroster.bsky.social @shawnmenard.bsky.social @glengower.bsky.social @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social @seandevine9.bsky.social
 Dear Lise Guèvremont,

We are writing to express our support for bus lanes as part of the Bank Street Active Transportation and Transit Priority Feasibility Study. At a very minimum, we believe the bus lanes must be active during peak hours and on event days at Lansdowne.

Many residents in Centretown travel to the Glebe using the number 6 and 7 buses to visit family, get to work, or to support local businesses. As the busiest bus corridor in the city, we need to be maximizing the efficiency of bus travel to ensure traffic flows smoothly and reliably.

The City’s own data collected outlined that 77% of respondents want more space for people outside of private vehicles on Bank Street

The CCA Transportation Committee held our 2025 priorities vote recently and improving transit on Bank Street was chosen as our number 1 priority. This is an issue with a lot of support, with the potential to improve a lot of commutes and trips for Centretown residents.

We would encourage the City to extend the Bank Street Study into Centretown, or to consider giving Bank Street in Centretown a transit study of its own, exploring the option of bus lanes on Bank Street North of the highway.

We are requesting a formal meeting to further discuss our vision for better buses and less traffic on Bank Street.

Sincerely,
Rob Dekker
President, Centretown Community Association
