Polling conducted by Ireland Thinks shows that 72% are against fox hunting, while only 2% of us have ever engaged in it, writes Saoirse McHugh

Sprat are small members of the herring family, and are the basis of whole marine ecosystems. Yet they're being hoovered up by pair-trawlers to feed fish farms.

Please sign our petition calling for a pause on sprat trawling until we have more data.

Thank you!

Sentient’s analysis of 940 climate news stories across 11 outlets found that 96.2 percent made no mention of meat or livestock production as a cause of climate change.

This makes animal agriculture the least covered theme in climate reporting.

It would appear that civil society are equally unwilling to mention the elephant in the room when it comes to agri emissions - an almost complete capture by animal agriculture. Pussy footing around the issue by eNGOs has gone on for far too long already.

'Hijacked'? 'Pushing an agenda'? It's called EU law, namely the Habitats Directive, it's been in place for decades, & like most laws Ireland is failing to do that well, while our biodiversity pays the price.

So, yes, eNGOs are pushing it. Unapologetically.

“Ireland’s derogation farmers” - are those the ones responsible for the pollution that plagues our natural environment and is killing off water bodies like #LoughDerg and #LadysIslandLake?

Wake up @news.rte.ie we’re in a #climateemergency and you have a duty to report accurately on this. Animal agriculture in Ireland represents 38% of our emissions.
New CCAC #climate report covered on multiple RTÉ news bulletins just now, incl. Morning Ireland interview with chair, Marie Donnelly.

Total mentions of agriculture, Ireland’s largest source of emissions: zero.

In March, the American government deported more than 200 Venezuelan men from the U.S. to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador. The New York Times interviewed 40 of the men who were imprisoned. They described being beaten, sexually assaulted by guards and driven to the brink of suicide.
Inside Trump’s Deportation of Venezuelans: Four Months in a Salvadoran Prison
The Times interviewed dozens of migrant men sent to a prison in El Salvador by the Trump administration. Independent forensic analysts called the testimony credible and consistent and said the treatment met the U.N.’s definition of torture.

For those in any doubt, the ongoing nitrates derogation debate is not about the science on water quality, it's political wrangling, with our rivers, lakes and seas caught in the crossfire.

Our waterways deserve better- one can't drink politics.
