While we're on the topic, Admiral Paris has a picture of Tom on his desk.

EXCEPT THIS ISN'T TOM. It's a screencapture Nick Locarno from TNG. This implies that Locarno is the unacknowledged bastard son of Admiral Paris.

That's why Tom Paris never talks about Nick Locarno. I've cracked the case!

Star Trek Voyager, S4E17: Seven recovers memories of being assaulted and experimented on by a weapons dealer. The crew investigates, but is unable to either prove or disprove Seven's story, so they conclude that Seven imagined it. The moral of the story is don't believe survivors. Fuck this episode.

Star Trek Voyager, S4E9: Neelix is dating a sweet alien lady who rubs his sideburns, which are apparently an erogenous zone, a fact I cannot unlearn. Oh no! That lady was murdered. It's time for another cozy Tuvok murder mystery. Yay! 7/10

Star Trek Voyager, S3E19: It is I, Tuvok. It has come to my attention that you are experiencing anxiety because we are 8 km up in a malfunctioning space elevator, running out of oxygen, with an murderer aboard. You believe we will all die. This is illogical. I can survive a low oxygen environment.

Star Trek Voyager, S4E24: The ship is out of gas. The only fuel is on a planet made entirely of toxic goop.

Too dangerous for:
• Probes
• Teleporters

Safe for:
• Shuttles
• Spacesuits
• Tricorders
• Sick Bay
• The leather seats inside the shuttle
• The whole goddamn ship

Starfleet named the ship Voyager, after a NASA probe that got lost, fell in a black hole, became a god, and tried to destroy Earth. In retrospect, maybe what happened next was inevitable.

If you're wondering about my Star Trek rating system, it's very simple:

0-3 Shaka, when the walls fell

4-5 Temba, his arms wide

6-7 Sokath, his eyes uncovered

8-9 Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra

10 Picard and Dathon at El-Adrel

I believe that much of arguing with trolls is educating the readers of the thread

You can hijack trolling for the greater good
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there

NYc politics is incredibly parochial
from the perspective of someone who might want to be president, the best time to run for the white house is now, not later. so if AOC is thinking about it — if the white house is her ambition — then her best bet is to throw her hat in the ring
You Know What? Maybe the Time Is Right for an AOC Presidential Bid
She’s only 36, and there’s a good argument that she should run for Senate and bide her time. But she also could be a formidable White House candidate.

All I see on my Twitter timeline are reporters parsing every quote from AOC in Germany, trying to mock them for incoherence or inaccuracy, while a demented old man who can’t string sentences together or stay awake sits in the Oval, while the legacy media happily sanewashes his quotes.
